However, not only was the lamb too hard (and not this good), but also the service was awful! The guy who I suppose was the owner would tell his employees off in front of everyone and create a rather unpleasant environment for the guests. I felt really uncomfortable to the point of not taking any pictures. I would definitely not recommend going that far to witness that kind of behavior.
I know this restaurant from long time. The food and the service is always a MUST. There is a combination of local typical gastronomy with modern tastes.
Whether you go eat at the restaurante with friends or family; or visit their main banquete hall for a wedding or some other party, you can be sure to experience very good quality traditional portuguese cuisine. When you visit, don't forget to taste the roasts (veal, goat or porc), prepared in wood-fired ovens.
First of all the village has about 20 inhabitants with three of them in the restaurant. Big space with just us in it. Chef still came out to ask us how we wanted our beef done, so attention to detail even in the mountains. Bacalhau com natas was delicious, big plate of grelos alongside (cabbage tops) and sai chunks of meat. Second visit was roast goat with garlic rice. All excellent, well cooked and reasonably priced. Happy to do take aways, soups, bread, gave us a lettuce to take home and a pack of milk. Brilliant. Thank you, nice people.
We rented a property for a week in the village partly because there was a bar restaurant there but didn 't expect it to be so good, only missing one night ! The restaurant has a nice ambience is very clean the traditional Portuguese cuisine excellent, served in the usual mega portions representing exceptional value for money ! We were very lucky in that the proprietors son Nik speaks very good English,is very attentive, making every effort to assist in the selection/recommendation of meals. The village itself is set in lovely countryside with many good walking trails which combined with 'O juniors 'made for a thoroughly enjoyable weeks holiday! Thanks to all at 'O juniors ' from Jen Steve
