The place seems nice, the setting is great. It is far from the busy crowds yet a stone throw's away from the Palais des papes, hidden in the shade of a tree just behind the St.Pierre's church. The prices seem good and "plat du jour" offer is acceptable. The food itself is average - not bad, but nothing special. When it comes to payment, you may get surprised as we did. The "formule" (plat+dessert) for €13 suddently does not work and full price is requested. When we tried to get an explanation, we were told it would be valid only for one specific meal (that is even NOT on the menu) although it is not written anywhere. Our complaint was rejected with a sentence "you should have asked" even though the waitress herself lured is in ofdering the plat du jour + dessert for a special price. Our discussion with the boss was even more pointless. He told us in french he doesn't speak english but he apparently had no problem in understanding us when it came to discussion. He didn't care for TripAdvisor when I pointed out I'd give him a review. So be it, his choice. It's NOT about the €3 difference in price, it's about I hate to be treated like an idiot and be ripped off. Choose for yourself whether you support business like this or not...
Bad service, wine didn't seem fresh, bad food. They brought the check right after ordering. The dinner was chicken, but I could tell that it was frozen. They had deep fried potato tots as a side.
We had a great meal at Le Cloître! It was one of the nice memories of Avignon! We ordered some delicious galettes... The Super Champignons and one with spinach and smoked salmon. They were well prepared, just scrumptious! A very generous size, and reasonable prices. We alo ordered dessert crêpes, and they were very good. This is such a relaxing spot to eat... We felt lucky to have found it! One of those little tucked away places that make a holiday in another city enjoyable! The waiter was just wonderful... He was ever so patient, ever so friendly and gave of so much fun conversation. If you can find this restaurant, you will not be disappointed!
Another jewel of a find in Provence. We were lucky to find this lovely creperie late one night after we missed our 9:30 seating at a pricier, fancy restaurant, where the chef decided to close the kitchen at 9:45 (we got there at 9:45). We wondered the streets looking for somewhere to eat and were turned away at no less than 4 places (France's 35 hour work week does not favor late night dinners). Luckily, for us the staff at Le Cloitre took pity on us just as they had started to close down. A few cidres and crêpes later, we were will fed and happy. They even allowed us time for dessert and coffee. The service was courteous and professional. The food was your average crêperie fare; simple but tasty. In the future this would probably be my go to for lunch. We never felt rushed or felt as though we were imposing. Servers were courteous and professional. As a funny note, my friend and I were the only ones in the entire seating are of the lovely square.
