le Peche de la Gourmandise - Avignon

The interior design and the service are great. The food was quite good too. Maybe the sushis were not my favorite sushis ever but they tasted good and I enjoyed my meal a lot.Nice mochi filled with ice for the dessert. I would come back without any hesitation.

My first advice is to get the address right, as this restaurant is NOT on the main "rue de la Republique" but on a smaller street, rue Petramal, not very far from Les Halles. I live nearby and go frequently for supper and can only reproach my own "gourmandise" because I never stop eating soon enough. The sushi is always perfect, always amazing me at how they can have such fresh ingredients, perfectly presented. In addition to the classic choices of sushi and sashimi, there are some more modern and original variations, such as maki with foei gras. This is a convivial sushi restaurant where one can appreciate a serious approach to their specialties, prepared with real expertise. Add to that the personal welcome of the owner and one is well-motivated to make reservations ahead of time. Finally, for the quality and pleasure of this eating experience, prices are well-justified.

We visited this restaurant because it had good reviews. A local overheard us discussing this dinner option and also encouraged us to go. I had a sushi platter, and my boyfriend had a sashimi dish. Both were good, although the seaweed salad was even better! There was a higher ratio of rice in my sushi than I normally experience at home, so I was unable to finish the last couple of bites. The house cocktail is excellent, and the atmosphere is enjoyable. We had a very kind, helpful waitress who spoke great English and gave us fun information about France and Avignon. Also, it was wonderful that we were able to eat around 10:00, since everything else in the neighborhood was closing.

When we went there the owner was the waiter and the cook so we had to be patient. But he told us that in weekends he has people helping him out. The quality of the food is excellent the fish is fresh and the atmosphere is cosy.
