Wow..have had not fois gras so good for many years! the figs came from the tree of a neighbour and as dark, sweet and delicate as they were especially preserved by the chef. the combination of figs, deceaseds and cubed brot just melt in our mouth! with a beautiful white wine natural, a bit on the dry side, which did not fight with the trio of the aromen. for the main course I had scallops sauteed to perfection, with thin cut carrot rounds served in a scallop dish, and a small block of boiled barley with a binding agent that could have been cream (quite unique and very good and diagonally thin slices of sauteed asparagus..all very kreatiw. my man ordered the Cerf-Steak (a little brain), with the same side I had. the cerf was pan sauteed medium rare to keep it tender, and with a cook made sauce of 5 red fruits. delicious! for dessert I had homemade tarte of apples with black walnut sprinkles, a small boule of genuine vanilla bean ice cream. the tarte was thick, with apples on a pfuse basis. not like the ubiquitous tarte au pommes with a thin crust! simply excellent. and man had the profiteroles, with a lot of impact and chocolate syrup. we were so excited about everything, but were curious that we were the only diners on a Friday night? a bit from the inside town of avignon, but not far..easy to find on google, and simple parking...didn do not have to spend 30 minutes on looking for a parking place! a beautiful and personables couple have led the restaurant for over a dozen years. the man is the very creative boss...and they also have a very nice and reasonable lunch menu. we come on Monday to try your lunch. we give them 5 stars..which are worth...we recommend, but remember to call a day before a reservation!
We had dined here a few years ago, finally had the time to dine again, and so glad we did! Called for a required reservation (at least a day ahead) as all ingredients for the dinner menu are personally gathered by the chef each...day! The restaurant itself, in a quaint maison, is very chic inside, with a classic understated ambiance that is a return to fine dining without pretension. Even the chairs are very comfortable for long dining, not often found in French restaurants!! Everything is homemade, including the sauces..and delicious. We ordered the course menu for a very reasonable price, considering what we chose..a starter of pan seared fresh fois gras perfectly seared, with figs confitted, sliced in half and lying on top, covered in crispy small logs of pain epice (I will post a photo soon). Wow..have not had fois gras this good for many many years!! The figs were from a neighbor's tree and so dark, sweet and tender, as they were specially preserved by the Chef...the combination of fig, fois gras and spiced bread just melted in our mouths!! With a nice white wine of course, a bit on the dry side that did not fight with the trio of flavors. For the main course I had Scallops sauteed to perfection, with thin sliced carrot rounds served in a scallop shell, and a small block of cooked barley with a binding agent that might have been cream (quite unique and very good and diagonal thin slices of sauteed asparagus..all very creative. My husband ordered the "Cerf" steak (a small deer), with the same sides I had. The cerf was pan sauteed medium rare to keep it tender, and covered with a chef made sauce of red fruits...delicious! For dessert I had homemade Tarte of Apples with black walnut sprinkles, a small boule of true vanilla bean ice cream whipped cream...the tart was thick, with apples on top of a pound cake base...not like the ubiquitous "tarte au pommes" with a thin crust! just excellent. And husband had the Profiteroles, with lots of "schlagg" and chocolate syrup. We were so delighted with everything, but were curious that we were the only diners on a Friday night?? A bit remote from downtown Avignon, but not far..easy to find on Google, and easy parking...didn't have to spend minutes looking for a parking space! A lovely and personable couple have run the restaurant for over a dozen years...the husband is the very creative Chef...and they also have a very nice and reasonable lunch menu...we return on Monday to try their lunch. We give them Stars..they are worth it...we highly recommend, but remember to call a day ahead for a reservation!!
Ambiance chaleureuse et sympathique. On se croirait á chef á domicile. On s y sent bien!
