To start, they served salsa with two homemade tortillas instead of the usual tortilla chips. We ordered the Fundido as an appetizer, which also came with tortillas, making it a bit tricky to enjoy. While the standard Mexican dishes were fairly average, the carnitas plate was excellent. The ambiance was nice, feeling authentic rather than overly cliché.
The food is consistently delicious, but during our visit, one of our friends found a puzzling non-food object under his mole sauce—something that looked like a press-on nail. Unfortunately, our server didn't seem sure how to address the situation, and no one else from the restaurant came to our table to assist. They did remove the meal from the bill, and we ended up sharing our dishes with him.
I hadn’t visited this place in a while and realized how much we love it. The menu is extensive with a variety of delicious choices. I ordered the Platos Grande with carne asada, which was fantastic. They offer huge frozen margaritas and unlimited fresh, homemade tortillas. The service was outstanding; we had plenty of questions about the enormous menu, and our server answered them patiently and thoroughly. The ambiance is a bit dim, but the fantastic food brightens things up. This is definitely some of the best Mexican cuisine in the Vail Valley.
Excellent Mexican food, great prices and lovely outdoor patio.
One of our annual summer visits is to listen to Phil Long play on the patio at the foot of Vail Mountain. It doesn't get much better. Highly recommend and make reservations early.
