The Wooden Squirrel - Bairnsdale

The staff is extremely friendly, there is ample seating, and the atmosphere is fantastic. We had breakfast and the food was delicious. It was a nice touch to be able to watch the chef preparing our meal.

I enjoy, perhaps need, a coffee first up. The hotel I stayed at night before was great, but I couldn't get breakfast there in the morning after the night I stayed there. Not being a local and with a slightly foggy head, I walked down Main Street and ended up at the address 142 Main Street. 8 am ish I think. I had a client meeting at 9.30, so that'd be about right. I chose the avocado stack cauliflower fritter and bacon (although I don't recall bacon being a compliment to this dish). Perhaps Chef, who received a double ristretto from one of the Team while I was ordering my breakfast, intuitively ordered bacon with my order. Disappointed? Negative. The Avocado, sublime, asparagus spears on the side, correct weight, Persian fetta, lovely (I love fetta, I can't score down because I wanted more. I only wanted more when I'd run out of fetta! The stack, savoury exactly. And the rest to the finish. After a few minutes of unconscious eating and thinking of the day ahead, I knew it was a matter of time before this dish came to its ultimate demise generous, if you will. The poached egg was spot on (too many puns), and the double shot almond latte gave me what I needed. Great job, team. See you again when I'm back in town.

Welcoming staff, followed by a delicious Avocado stack with poached egg, aspargus, feta, tomato and excellent coffee, what more could you want!

I never had a bad experience here. Today I had the buttermilk roasted chicken burger, who was divine. So I had a blue milkshake that was made perfection. As a native Victorian community there is nothing like a blue sky milkshake when it comes home. The staff was friendly. The ambience was good. I highly recommend it.
