This Jamaican restaurant is absolutely outstanding! The food is simply amazing, with aromas and spices blending together in perfect harmony. The chicken and goat dishes were cooked to perfection, and the prices are unbeatable anywhere else. I’d rate the food a solid 12 out of 10! Beyond the delicious meals, the owners are incredibly friendly and dedicated. The restaurant has a warm, homemade vibe that makes you feel like you’re dining in the owner's living room, enjoying a freshly prepared dish straight from the stove. This place is a must-visit in Bakersfield. To top it all off, Stephanie makes her own healthy pressed juices, which are far superior to any of the chain brands you’ll find at Whole Foods or similar stores.
Summary: I had a reservation at this restaurant for a while and was excited to try it for lunch. I ordered the standard backpack chicken, and it was quite good—not overly salty or oily, which was a pleasant surprise and kept me from feeling lethargic. I give the food five stars! While I enjoyed the chicken, I’m looking forward to trying the oxtail and goat dishes in the future. The Ruck chicken plate was also pretty tasty, featuring a variety of spices that enhanced the flavor without making it too salty or greasy, unlike many other chicken dishes. The rice, vegetables, and sides were all quite good as well. Bottom line: This restaurant is an excellent addition to my regular dining spots in Bakersfield.
If you're craving homemade Jamaican food, you should definitely stop by this charming little family-run place. I sampled the jerk chicken, and the owner kindly let me try some of her curry chicken as well—it was absolutely delicious and just melted in my mouth. The potatoes were boiled to perfection. Each meal comes with rice and beans, cabbage, plantains, and a soda. I can't wait to return this weekend to try her oxtail!
I was in town to see the almond blossoms and came across this place on Yelp. I was surprised and excited to find a genuine Caribbean restaurant out here (granted I know very little about Bakersfield). First the food. We ordered the jerk chicken plate. You get jerk chicken, rice and peas, cabbage, and fried plantains for $10. The chicken was moist and you can really taste the seasoning. The best part for me was the tangy sauce he poured on top of the chicken. I wish I had asked for extra. It was sooo good! They have a few tables outside with umbrellas you can sit and dine at but mostly everyone did drive through while we were there. Barrington is the Chef and namesake of this hole in the wall gem. He was incredibly friendly. I couldn?t decide on the brown stew chicken or the jerk chicken so he gave me a sample. We also had been on the road and out and about for nearly five hours and needed to use the restroom really badly. He was kind enough to let us use his private restroom which really saved the day for us. He said he?s been cooking traditional food like this since he was a young boy. His passion really showed with every interaction he encountered. Too bad it?s a three hour drive from me. If I?m ever back in town I?ll definitely come again to try curry or the oxtail. Ugh, my mouth is watering watering now!
