Curry Star - Ballarat

Whether it be the $10 lunch deal (main with wine), or an evening meal with the trimmings the Curry Star serves up beautiful food. The wait staff are very friendly, and we always leave happy.

After circling unsuccessfully to find a park at central restaurants I googled this place which is in a quieter street. Service was great, while not the best curry I have had (was a bit too runny) it was still tasty and delicious. The papadums were awesome.

We have lunched at the Curry Star 3 times now. We started with Chicken Parma's but since then I have enjoyed Chicken Vindaloo and Vegetable Jalfrezzie. The lunch time deal is amazing value, a choice of Indian or Other dishes, a papadam and a glass of wine.I am working thru all the meals on the lunch time specials and have booked to take other before a night at the theatre as they are open early.

The food was quite shocking to say the least. We were taken aback that previous trip advisor reviews had given it 4 stars. The only dish that was palatable was tandoori chicken and butter chicken. The rest was not even average by very modest standards. The soups couldn't be differentiated from curries. Not to mention our expectations were dashed, while we left more than half the ordered food, the manager came to ask how we enjoyed it. I must say I was bewildered with a sense of awe for such an act of bravery.

It has been awhile since I have been here after my last experience. It is a great improvement. Front of a House was very welcoming and obviously cared about each diner and seemed to really love working there. The food was good - I just have a little difficulty in Indian places dumbing down their hot curries to try to fit in with their perceived western tastes. The 'hot' curry was pretty mild, but was tasty. Well worth giving it a try.
