Cafe Zen - Baltimore

This is likely the most underrated standard Chinese restaurant in Baltimore. While it's not extraordinary, they do offer a few unique dishes. It's typically not very busy, so your food arrives quickly. I would categorize it as comforting American Chinese cuisine. If you live nearby, it’s definitely worth a visit. They also have some great vegetarian options. I wish this place were located in a different neighborhood, like Hampden or Remington, or would even deliver there. They do deliver to the Towson area through Order Up.

We've been fans of Cafe Zen for 20 years. The food is consistently excellent, and the staff is always friendly. We tend to order traditional Chinese/American dishes, as we've been let down every time we've tried their Thai, Japanese, Philippine, or Singaporean offerings. They have a steady carryout business with locals, and the restaurant is kid-friendly. Although what used to be a simple space with aquatic-themed murals has become a bit dated and worn, we don't come for the ambiance.
