This popular watering hole has been serving up bistro meals for many years, and the menu has been recently updated to a higher standard. I indulged in a huge double beef, bacon, and cheese burger with chips, which was absolutely delicious! The beer prices were typical for a hotel, with the beer of the month being my favorite Coopers Pale Ale for just $5.00 a schooner – great value for money. The hotel, now run by the son of the original owners, Liz, has a main bar and courtyard areas which cater to both locals and visitors. The Sir Joseph Banks Hotel is a family-friendly establishment and I would rate it a very good 8/10.
Great meals, fast service, friendly staff. especially cold beer! also reasonable prices
I was very disappointed with the overpriced pub food at this restaurant. I went on a Friday night and it was empty. They couldn't even cook a few steaks properly. My daughter's fish was terrible. It seems like they don't even taste the food they serve. I can't believe that after all my efforts to give them another chance, the best they could come up with was very basic. I'll give them two stars out of sympathy.
I often go to this restaurant on quiet Wednesday nights for trivia and on the last Saturday to meet friends for a pick-up dinner. The staff is excellent, the food is delicious, and the prices are reasonable. I wish them success and hope they become more well-known, as it currently feels like a hidden gem for locals. I will definitely be returning soon to see how they continue to impress customers.
