There was not a lot of variety for non-seafood eaters, but that was to be expected. One person in our group had a strong reaction to what we suspect was MSG in the food. I believe that Australian ingredients have enough flavor on their own and MSG is unnecessary, especially considering the negative reactions some people have. Overall, I would say Yum is decent for Sydney, but nothing particularly special.
We visited Yumcha, a relatively empty restaurant. However, we were completely ignored by the staff who seemed preoccupied with something else. In particular, the older female staff members in their 70s with short hair and black vests were rude to their colleagues, pushed their carts away, and were dismissive towards both their coworkers and customers. This greatly affected our overall dining experience. The service at this restaurant is extremely poor.
I went to this restaurant on a weekday evening looking for a meal, but was disappointed to find out that they only serve their regular yum cha menu during the day. Despite this, I still enjoyed the beautiful ambiance and the yum cha buffets offered for $29 on weekdays and $39 on weeknights.
We used to be here for all you can eat yum cha when it was trolley service and it was great. they have been renovated and serve themselves buffet style. I must say that the variety of food is fantastic! there stir fries, fried. noodles, roasted rice, noodles all kinds that they get at their regular yum cha, fruits, prawns!, desserts. it is a bit expensive, but I thought it was worth it. $39 per adult and $17 per child. the atmosphere was not blossoming at all, we went on a Sunday evening 530 a.m., when they just opened for dinner and there were maybe 5 more tables (of 50). it was quite empty. Maybe it'll be buffalo later? the personal was friendly enough, but really, we arent there to make friends, we are there to eat. I really enjoyed it!
Unless you are of the ethnicity as the restaurant.... do not expect to be served. Chinese people served multiple times before we were served! In addition to this you place multiple orders in and the food does not come. Really regret taking chances on this...restaurant especially on Valentine’s Day. Never again, walked out very hungry and very disappointed. Of the few dumplings we did have they were nice, makes up for the obligatory one star
