It was so terrible that this is the first and only place to date that I've turned around and walked back out without ordering a single thing, or even being remotely tempted to order a single thing. Their service is so terrible, I think perhaps they were trying their very best to win the Worst Restaurant of the Year award, and doing a terrific job of it. From the moment I walked in, it was just a mess of awkward confusion, which only intensified as my time inside went on. Nobody looked at us, or even acknowledged us upon entry, even though I made direct eye contact with a waitress behind the counter, and smiled at her, she just looked at me like I was weird for smiling at her and then looked away and carried on her conversation with a male coworker. Obviously, I must have interrupted a very important conversation she was having, which probably went along the lines of "this restaurant is so terrible, it's going to close down, and we need to find new jobs", in which case I totally understand and forgive her for her transgressions, as finding a new job is a very serious thing, especially in today's economy. We wandered awkwardly towards a table ourselves, as nobody bothered to greet us and ask us how many people, nor point us vaguely to a table, not so much as a slight nod of the head nor impatient wave of the hand towards tables even, the bare minimum that even the laziest waiters would do. Then, we sat, thinking perhaps someone will be out to give us water and menus, or at least menus, but no, that was asking too much, how silly of me. We sat for a few minutes in awkwardness, with wait staff looking at us and then looking away and ignoring us, before we got up and walked over to the counter, where there were four menu books, extremely tattered and with the desserts page glued together for some reason. At this point, another lady had walked out from the kitchen and stood behind the counter, and I could only assume she was the manager or the owner perhaps, as she was not wearing the black uniform all the others were wearing. And then I realised why the waiters were so untrained and ill mannered: their manager knew no better either, so how could I expect her to train her wait staff to be any better when this was all she knew? She stared at us rather impatiently, flicking her pen impatiently all the while, like we were wasting her time, without so much as a smile or any greeting, or asking if we would like help or if we'd like to order. We asked her about a grilled meat dish we'd seen photos of, and which was the whole reason for our being there, and she frowned at us and replied rudely with just a "What?". So we tried to explain it, and she cut us off impatiently and said rather sharply "No, we don't have it. If you want that, you have to call and book with me first." When we had looked up this dish online, and while being in the restaurant, nowhere did it say we had to preorder for this particular dish, so it would have been nice to know this information beforehand. (What Vietnamese restaurant in Bankstown requires diners to prebook?? Wow this place is so fancy!!) By this stage, any desire I had left to eat there was completely gone, and once I heard that the main and only attraction I came for was not available, I smiled and politely thanked her and turned around and walked out. She smirked at me for some reason, but said nothing, no bye or anything, and stared at us as we walked out (I knew this as I could feel her eyes boring into the back of my head so I actually turned around at the door and sneaked a quick peak to see if she was staring, and, lo behold, she was). Afterwards, I read some reviews, and other people said that this place was full self service; it would have been nice if there were signs to indicate this, such as a simple 'please order here' or a 'order and pay at counter', anything really, to alleviate the awkwardness I felt from not knowing a thing and not being told how it worked here. Although to be honest, this place was beyond self service, to the point where I wonder why they need staff at all, especially when the staff aren't there to help their customers, just to socialize with each other. I can see why though, growing up in an Asian family, if I wanted to socialize, I had to lie and say it was for school, so as an adult, these staff members can no longer lie and say it's for school, they must now say it's for work, and then go off to work to socialize with friends. But I have to say, lying to family in order to socialize is one thing, having no manners is an entirely different thing, and, as a fellow Asian, their ancestors must be turning in their graves from the shame and dishonor they bring on their families for acting in such a way. To quote Mulan: "Dishonor! Dishonor on your whole family! ..dishonor on you, dishonor on your cow.." TIP: don't come here unless you like being ignored and you didn't go through enough of an awkward stage as a teenager (or you just miss it) and wish to experience it tenfold as an adult.
This butcher is a hidden gem in Bankstown and seems to have a very loyal Vietnamese following.
I'm going to a local steak. Come here a week. it is a small restaurant operated by a family, and they serve a generous amount of food on the teller. the waiting period depends on how busy the place is because the cook cooked everything when ordered. (I look forward to waiting for a fresh one from the grill steak) any other place in the opposite, the cook steak somehow tastes like coal (which is rough. the set-up is like self-service. they grab their drinks, order food at the counter, grab cutlery etc. then they find a seat. but only for grilled food. they get the money worth definitiw. Honestly, they pay $12 for a record. what is there to complain?...read more
Extremely bad place. they microwave the eating in rust of them, the steak is disgusting and good at all. the price is average, but not worth how bad it is. eating needs to come forever.
