We were wandering in the Gotik section and decided to stop for lunch. This place had a Trip Advisor decal and was full of locals. I had the gazpacho, advertised as the best in Barcelona. It is a cream soup unlike what I am familiar with and I did not like it. My husband had beef stew. It was mediocre at best. The creme brulee was still cold inside.
My husband and I came across this delightful cafe and were not disappointed. Don't judge a book by its cover! Please try....you will love it!
We noticed this characterful little restaurant whilst ambling through the little back alleys of the Gothic Quarter. The next day we decided to have lunch there and were lucky enough to get a table without waiting. We each had the excellent value 3 course lunch and were very happy with our choices. We started with home made gazpacho, hubby followed with Spanish style sausage and mash, (irritatingly I can't recall what I had for main but know it was good! and for dessert we both had a fantastic home made Spanish flan accompanied by macerated forest fruits! There were plenty of interesting alternative choices on the menu. Service was efficient and pleasant. The owners are a hard working young couple the restaurant is cheerful and quirky, with original beams and little galleried area for tables upstairs. Plenty of local workers were eating whilst we were there. We'd definitely go there again.
We were wandering round looking for somewhere off the tourist track for lunch when we found this little gem. It's small, friendly, and unobtrusive and we liked the look of it immediately. We had the set lunch for €12.50 (plus Sangria and coffee it came to €38.40 for the two of us) The service was good, and the meal was excellent. Delicious, fresh food with the authentic earthy flavours of home cooking. I had gazpacho which was like a cool spot under trees by a river, and my husband had potatoes and chorizo gloopy and rustic. We followed this with pork and beef both nicely cooked with herbs and potatoes. The dessert was not as exciting, but a perfectly acceptable tiramisu. We intend to visit again!
