We ordered nachos with guacamole and cheese, chili con carne and beef burrito and the portions were huge, freshly made with care. We had a very pleasant dinner here and will return for sure! I can only recommend this restaurant if you enjoy big portions of food, you will not leave hungry, that's a guarantee. The staff were also very nice and the service was fast and professional.
This is a tex mex restaurant, not a Mexican one. I never had before tacos al pastor without onion and cilantro. The tacos de nopales had plenty of oil but no onion and cilantro, not to be compared to what is served at Mexico City or other Mexican restaurants in Spain, Germany or Poland. Not every person likes onion, cilantro or spicy food but this can always be asked to every guest.
Although La Tarantula was absolutely rammed on Saturday night, there was very little atmosphere. The decor of bright varnished pine, movie posters and strong lighting seemed neither to hang together with any style, nor have anything to do with the concept of the restaurant. Maybe with such an unappetising name that is just as well! There must be a happy medium between kitsch sombreros etc and total blandness. The service was efficient and friendly, especially given the crowds. On to the most important things: the food drink...... how can there be a Mexican restaurant that doesn't serve Margaritas? We drank mojitos instead which were good enough. The food was the standard, ubiquitous cheesey gloop served in the dullest of Mexican joints across Europe. The nachos tasted fresh, but the frijoles were dry and tasteless. I was hoping for a bit of fire, but the only heat came from the lack of AC. So I had to ask for some extra chipotle sauce to wake up my jaded taste buds. The best that can be said is that the portions are very generous. My friends had one entire dish wrapped up to take home. For a nacho starter, a veggie quesadilla and two mojitos I paid €26 .... not much by any means, but still not good value. With so many well priced eateries in Barcelona, I'd suggest giving this place as wide a berth as it's eponymous beastie.
No sé cuántas veces he venido aquí y nunca he dejado de sorprenderme.
