Having recently returned from a trip to Greece, I was curious how the food from Mr Greek restaurant chain would compare. This is a simple functional layout restaurant, nothing fancy. Very typical of Greece. You order & pay at the counter & put a placard with a number on your table & your order is delivered to your table. Service was prompt & the staff polite. I ordered the calamari dinner & throughly enjoyed it. The lightly deep fried calamari was not over cooked as I have found in other restaurants. The choices of side dishes was appreciated. Serving size very ample. They have decorated with some very large black & white photos of elderly Greek women. Very typical of the street scenes I saw & artistic in their own right. Now for what was missing... Greek has some of the most breathtaking views of the sea in the world & so many picturesque villages with gleaming white buildings with blue shutters. Truly unique in the world... but missing in the decor of Mr. Greek.
I don't like the fact you have to pay when you order. The food is good but a little pricy. The interior of the restaurant is cold and elementary.
My mom and I visited Mr Greek today, expecting a healthy, Mediterranean lunch. The food quality was very poor and at $24 for a shared starter and entrée with tap water to drink, it was not good value. My mom ordered the starter spinach and cheese dip with pita bread wedges. I tasted it and found it to be luke warm and bland. I ordered the Original Gyro, which I was expecting to be wrapped in a pita and containing the lamb, beef, Greek salad and tzatziki. Instead the dry, inedible meat was piled on the plate and served with a side of salad and some pita wedges and a small plastic container of sauce. I had to take the meat back as it literally was as dry as leather. The man behind the counter was nice and brought some more meat that was moderately more moist but by then, I was not enjoying the flavour and couldn't tell which was beef and which was lamb. Mom and I left, having eaten less than half our meals. We will not be returning.
Spotted this new Mr. Greek restaurant while shopping and I immediately wanted a pork souvlaki on a bun so I stopped in. Used to always go to the one in Toronto. Nice and new, not the typical Mr. Greek from Toronto, very franchised looking. Friendly staff, just ordered pork souvlaki on a bun to go. Service was fast, souvlaki cost just over $9.00 without anything else. Surprised and disappointed and how small the souvlaki on a bun was. Two small skewers of pork on a small bun. Worst souvlaki on a bun I have ever had. Not savoury tasting and not the authentic Mr. Greek taste at all! Will not return.
