I dined at this restaurant this evening with my daughter and grandson and ordered the chicken and ham hock pie, the steak and ale pie, and a child's burger with vegetables. I hadn't eaten here in several years, and to be honest, I won't be coming back! The service was good, but the food was awful. The steak and ale pie contained only a single piece of meat; the rest seemed like bits of minced meat and was mostly just pastry. As for the chicken and ham hock pie, there was far too much pastry; I was very disappointed! The child's burger tasted terrible, and the only redeeming part of the meal was the chips. I definitely won't be returning! As chefs, we would rate the Hatch in Basingstoke a low 1 out of 10. It’s simply not for us, not even if the meal were free!
