I had dinner here as part of a group of eight. The prices are good. The staff are friendly, attentive and helpful. The food came in good time, and was hot. The servings are very generous (if part of a large party, avoid over-ordering!). The places is popular, was pretty much packed the Saturday night we ate there, and also has a very busy take-away trade. So, all pretty good except for the food itself. It is well cooked - I've noted others here complain of "rubbery" rice etc., but this was not my experience. No, the food was well prepared and cooked; the rice fluffy, the meats tender. But the flavours just aren't there. It's all bland.
I've been to this restaurant many times over the years and they always have good, reliable food. Tonight's was a bit dry, the carrots particularly were very dry in the sweet and sour pork but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt because it's the first time that's happened. My wife had the King Prawn Chow Mein which was good. The special fried rice was good but not great tonight, maybe they had an off night.
The smorgasbord is worth trying, a good mix of entrees and mains, food is replenished reasonably quickly, and their pork in sweet and sour sauce is my absolute favourite, with the spring rolls a close second. Excellent value for money, and the serving area is kept spotlessly clean.A favourite venue for lunch
We happened upon this restaurant by chance. There were a lot of empty tables, which we should have taken as a sign. There were a lot of people standing around the counter waiting for there take away and we waited almost 5 minutes to be acknowledged and shown to a table. There were 2 big tables of diners, one in a separate room who appeared to get all the attention. We waited and waited just to have our drink orders taken. Then we waited and waited to have our meal order taken. I ordered rainbow beef but apparent the chef cooked peppered beef so the waitress apologised and brought us out a plate of spring rolls to stave off starvation. The spring rolls were very good. Our meal finally arrived and it was very good. I couldn't find any fault with it. We were contemplating banana fritters for dessert and the waitress talked us into them. Once again we weren't disappointed. Some of the best Chinese food we have had in a long time. It's just a shame about the service.
