Maxwell's Market - Baton Rouge

My mom has cancer, and this is the only place she can eat right now. I truly love the chicken salad sandwich with sweet potato fries, and my mom enjoys it as well. The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming. It's always a great experience!

The food here is quite good, but they really struggle with timing, which can significantly spoil the experience. It sometimes seems like they have just one person in the back preparing each dish one at a time. My latest visit was what finally motivated me to write this review. We arrived to find only one group already eating and another person ahead of us ordering. We placed an order for two burgers, without fries, and it took a staggering 24 minutes for us to receive them. Unfortunately, this kind of delay happens more than half the time I visit, and I come here fairly often since it's close to my workplace. If you arrive while there are two or more groups waiting for their food, expect at least a 30-minute wait. Your chances of a quicker service are much better if you arrive right at 11:00 AM, but don’t think you can just walk in at noon and be in and out quickly. It's a real shame because the food is consistently good; I always enjoy their weekly specials, especially the steaks and burgers.

I adore Maxwell's and we visit at least once a week, sometimes even twice. We purchase 95% of our meat from there, but I must say they aren't as good as they once were. The French fries used to be properly cooked and seasoned, but on my last few visits, they've been undercooked, greasy, and lacking seasoning. I was really looking forward to enjoying their fries today.

I ordered a gluten-free meatloaf and mashed potatoes for a catered lunch, and it was fantastic! I called ahead to place my request, and it was ready for pickup right on time. My wife was thrilled to have her favorite comfort food, which is hard to find at most places due to gluten in their recipes. This dish tasted amazing, even to the regular food lovers in the office. I ordered a whole muffaletta sandwich, but when I got home, I found only two thin slices of meat on it. This restaurant is usually a great place to eat, but this experience was very disappointing.
