Alter Bierhof Inh. Andre Domsch

We stopped in Bautzen on our tour through Germany and had lunch at the Alter Bierhof Inh. we sat on the terrace overlooking parts of the old town with its wall and round tower. We chose this location because of the influence of Saxony on the kitchen... and it was not disappointed. We enjoyed several local dishes and everyone was a joy and excellent prepared.

If Carlsberg made Burger. We found the restaurant on a side street from the main road in the old town of Bautzen. When looking into the window it appeared closed. After they were open, we were very pleasantly surprised to find that they were... well filled with diners in the back dining rooms. After we set ourselves, we have the menu that covers all tastes and pallets. Service excellent and unobtrusive. Four very different meals ordered and four very happy diners when our plates arrived. The food was excellent and very well presented. There was no rush for us to clear after our meal. We were allowed to talk and not annoyed by the staff to get us to order more drinks. The bill was very reasonable for what we had. A truly wonderful and completely unexpected culinary experience. 5 stars and more

I've made three trips to Bautzen since 2011, two of which are partly based on the return to this restaurant. Nowhere in my experience (not awfully extensive in Germany) I found a place with 2L beer, especially the largest is the shattered... a liter of traditional German stones. Anyway, the food was always great in this restaurant and the fact that they offer a 2L beer is a total seller and also for a significant price. Definitely, for lunch or dinner, if in Bautzen and conveniently located. I'll say the last time the service was missing. They seemed to be somewhat relatively busy, but it also seemed as if they were underoccupied, and this led to about 35-40 minutes for us to get our quite simple order. I was more than halfway with my 2L beer when the food arrived. A clear scar on an otherwise good experience.

Excellent service and delicious food. I checked it on another page. Great value for money. We found the restaurant in a pure accident on a cool Saturday night and were more than happy that they had room for us. Staff friendly and unobtrusive.
