Today I had the chicken salad sandwich with fruit, both excellent. Last time had the gluten free quiche (amazing hash brown crust) and gluten free scones, also excellent. Both visits included a variety of white tea. Service was excellent, too.
Cute little shop with friendly service, but I came here because I wanted a good cup of tea and their website made it seem like they were more knowledgeable than average. But when I saw that they were serving ?culinary? grade matcha for drinking it wasdisappointing (culinary grade is for smoothies and baking, it is not suitable for drinking). This place is more of an Englishtea shop than an Asian tea shop, but I would still expect more knowledge from a place specializing in tea. They also don?t haveany non dairy creamer and only one non dairy milk. So if you?re looking for a very traditional English tea experience this isprobably a good choice, but if you?re looking for anything outside of that there are other better tea places in Houston.
What a nice experience. The tea room is a charming little spot with some beautiful China. I want to buy it all! The sandwiches were a little on the simple side but they were good, as were the desserts. There was a great selection of teas, some of which Ihaven?t seen anywhere else. The scones were small but good. I do feel like there could have been more cream/jam given per tableas I asked for more but it never came. The lunch food that others were ordering around us looked absolutely delicious. I willsay that it was very loud inside the restaurant, it was hard to hear each other talking. But service was good and the pricingwas right. Great little place!
A hidden and remarkable gem tucked away near Chinatown! Ever since having high tea at Balmoral in Edinburgh, our expectations for high tea have been elevated. McHugh Tea did not disappoint and we are excited to have something like this in Houston! Wewent for afternoon high tea on a Saturday for our anniversary. I called the day before to make reservations over the phone andit was super easy. Parking was plentiful in front of the shop (they have a large parking lot). My husband is vegetarian so werequested that the high tea have vegetarian sandwiches. There were three types cucumber/cream cheese, savory cheese and avegetarian salad sandwich instead of chicken salad. The sandwiches were all yummy and the savory cheese was as authentic as itcomes. It also came with two scones (a bit bigger than macarons) that were cranberry/orange and matcha. They came with clottedcream, strawberry jam and lemon curd. The scones were very light and fluffy and served warm. While I?ve had clotted cream andstrawberry jam frequently, I have never had lemon curd and it was a pleasant combination! The small desserts were a goodaddition to the teas. I?m terms of the teas, they had a great selection of white, black, oolong and green teas. We picked theSilver needle (white tea), Honeysuckle Fig (oolong) and Pu erh teas. Our waitress guided us on the order to drink the tea and itwas very helpful because we enjoyed the flavors more. The Honeysuckle Fig was unanimously our favorite as it had a naturalsweetener. Overall, we had a great time and plan on being back again!
