The Forbes, established in 1836, touts itself as Sydney's oldest pub with a continuous liquor license, although this claim is questionable at best.
I am giving this restaurant 2 stars mainly because it is not my type of place, nor is it the type of place I would like to be associated with. The atmosphere caters to a quiet, older crowd in their 40s and 50s.
Popped in for a drink after a show as the outside looked inviting. But inside- carpets so thin held together with tape , ceiling flaking close to derelict, bar, tables sticky and that old wet dog smell what was that. The worst though were the toilets they were a bio hazard- probably not their fault but i doubt they had a cleaning roster, i mean this is a public place, i seriously gagged. I didn't expect much from the wine but my partners face after a sip said it all. We left after a few moments of stunned silence. The bar girl was friendly, poor thing.
Went to the Forbes hotel for a bux party on the private top floor level. The room wasn't ready on time, bar had not been set-up had to wait more than 1 hour downstairs (paying additional $ to the bar tab). On this Saturday evening the manager (small Asian appearance) begun bouncing people from the party for no real reason all petty stuff which almost broke out into a fight with security however our group decided to leave as it was almost the end of the night. Given this event cost us 5k I would suggest that others do not use this venue for a bux event inexperienced and unprofessional management will ensure the night doesn't go smoothly.
