Stopped by for a quick lunch and coffee. Pie and sauce was ok although the pasty was softer than preferred. The coffee was yucky. My skinny latte lacked any coffee flavour and was just above luke warm. I requested a 'nice crema' on my husband's long black as he is a bit of a coffee snob. It came with just a hint of a crema and the waitress apologised saying cremas disappeared quickly but she would remake it. The second attempt was no better although the waitress (also the barista) brought a nearly full cup of hot water to the table and proceeded to pour a shot into the cup. Again no cream and tasted like a cup of instant. She offered to refund the price which was gratefully accepted.
Nice pies at a good price. This is not trying to be an upmarket establishment. It is a simple cafe selling pies, cake and coffee. The coffee was surprisingly good.
Whilst not as good as the old shop the range of pies, cakes and hot foods etc make this a very popular place for food on the run or a feed in the fresh air for workers on a break. Happy to recommend to all visitors to Bendigo but be prepared to queue at the busy lunch period although there are usually several people working behind the counter.
When I last went to this pie shop, the service I received was poor and the food, not that nice. When I was looking at the board working out what I wanted, the man rudely said "I haven't got all day"I was shocked as previous experiences that I'd had with the company were fairly good, but I won't be going back. The food I ordered was dry and tasted as if it had been sitting there for hours.
