It had been 'something' once apon a time....long ago.Warning bells should have rung when I saw only two (tourists) patrons eating here. The salt and pepper squid was very greasy and covered in burnt chilli. My vegetable dish consisted of 3 stems of bok choy, chopped and splashed with oyster sauce. Both dishes were megre and I was still hungry when I left.Service was 'take it or leave it' style, the type you get in rural towns, not Bendigo. The final straw was when an extremely drunk man sat down and was served his meal, his language was nothing short of 'salty' and I left.Sadly, a wasted evening in this lovely city.
The New China in Bendigo is definately worth a visit for a value for money meal. Don't really know the restaurant scene in Bendigo and this was a recommendation and it certainly stood up well. Whilst it's not the most well decorated restaurant we've been to it is clean and well maintained. The meals were great value ($90 for 3 people with wine) and the service was excellent. The restaurant was well attended for lunch on the day we were there yet the staff stayed on top of it.
Whilst in Bendigo on a recent Sunday my husband and I noticed this restaurant open to 3pm for Yum Cha, opening hours clearly displayed on windows in large writing and on door. We arrived at 1.15pm and were told by the waitress that they were closing soon due to slow business. I couldn't believe it. Any wonder business is slow if they treat the public this way. Either change the hours or don't display them. Would never go back there again. Cannot comment on food as we didn't get to taste it!
Found a treasure at the New China reastaurant, Bendigo. I had to read the menu twice to make sure the cheap prices were correct. Quick and friendly service. I'll definitely return.
What a find. 12 of us wanted a fun night out and heard of this Chinese restaurant were it has karaoke.Place was packed, so I would recommend booking. Food was great, steamed dim sims big and yum, Duck was tender, Satay Chicken melted in your mouth, veggies were crisp, all dishes were nice. Did leave me very thirsty through.Karaoke what a blast. Everyone gets involved and the place goes off. No booing everyone encourages each other. Song list is huge.Highly recommend New China for a great funny night out with friends.Service is good.
