A little bit of genuine Portugal in a tourist strip. No flashing lights and none of the painful spruking. As a taster I went with the pork of the day, oven roasted ribs and chops in a tomato sauce with potatoes. Also had mixed salad and sardines. The verdict good genuine fare.
This is a really small, authentic little Portuguese restaurant just off of the main drag leading up from Praça do Comercio in the centre of Lisbon. It's easy to get pulled into one of the more touristy joints around here, with waiters lingering outside with a picture menu and a welcoming smile. Restarante Ano Novo, however, was far less obtrusive, and the sight of many Portuguese eating here lured us in. The restaurant itself is quite small and cramped but we were seated quite comfortably at a table in a corner. I didn't think for one minute they would have a highchair for my little boy so didn't even ask, but one appeared as if my magic. I great little contraption that fitted directly on to the table meaning my little one was a the perfect height and felt like he was properly part of the eating experience. We ordered a carafe of house red wine and were presented with the complimentary bed, cheese, sardine paste and olives. We ordered two types of bacalao, mine was kind of fried and served with onions, olives and thin, crispy potatoes. My partners was baked and served with broccoli and boiled potatoes. His was the nicer dish but both were tasty. For dessert we ordered pudim de leite, a kind of set egg pudding. Fine dining it is not, but you will find good, authentic Portuguese food here. Service is quick and friendly, and it was exceptionally good value for money. A good find.
Bom restaurante para jantares de grupo.
