Konnopke's - Berlin

Just before leaving for my Berlin trip I read a feature on Konnopke 's Imbiss in the New York Times. It was a facinating story that traced its origin to the mid 1930s. It also stated that they offered vegan formats of Currywurst. I decided to...make a visit. It was an easy trip for me on U-2 from Wittenburgplatz U-Bahn Station to Eberswalder U-Bahn Station because I was staying close by. Konnopke 's is under the railway Arch, directly in front as you descend the steps from the station (this section of the U-Bahn is actually above ground at this point). You need to take a circuitous route via crossing points to get to it because it is also a busy road intersection. You can 't miss the bright Yellow site. The main part of the restaurant ' looks almost like a railcar. There are tables on the pavement where you can stand and eat. There is also a covered area where patrons can sit. I spoke to the staff and showed them the NYT Copy. They were delighted. Unfortunately I had just missed the owner, the granddaughter of the founder. I gave them the copy and ordered my vegan Currywurst and a beer. I dined at one of the table stands . I couldn 't believe it, 11:00 a.m. too late for breakfast and too early for lunch and I 'm eating currywurst and drinking beer! It was great. The staff were definitely an additional bonus, very friendly and a lot of fun. It was worth the U-2 trip to Eberswalder Station.

OK. Currywurst is so silly, so bad it's good and so Berlin! For a real experience you need to go to Konnopkes. The original food stand since 1931, at a major interesection, under a subway bridge, outside with lineups. What's not to like? The place...is a tradition and beloved amongst locals and tourists. Such a great way to feel like a true Berliner...beer and brats on the street. Supposedly the best in town but who knows? Just go.

If you want to sample proper street food and do a totally local thing then do as my twin brother Stephen and I always do whenever we are in Berlin and head to one of the curry wurst stands that proliferate Berlin and Konnopke's Imbiss...is most definitely one of my favourites. Located under the stands of Eberswalder Straße S Ubahn station ,this in my opinion is the best curry wurst in Berlin ,we were here on a Monday late afternoon, we joined the queue which went down really quickly, we both got curry wurst mit pommes and a bottle of Schultheiss beer each ,we luckily managed to get one of the stands were we enjoyed our meal and beers . My curry wurst was outstanding, the sauce totally delicious and the fries were just superb,the beer was outstanding, a proper local beer ,it was a really good meal and a great experience. We moved on after our delicious meal and beers and as on every other visit to here we had a great time . Konnopke's Imbiss is easy to locate on Schoenhauser Allee,under the spans of the Sbahn Ubahn station. Well worth checking out if your in the area.

Can be that this snackbar is the oldest in berlin, but that doesn’t mean that it is also the best. pale, boiled instead of roasted, simplest ketchup. who wants to be cheap will be satisfied.

Curry is only without darm, very sympathetic. the sausage is also very well seasoned. the homemade boobs really taste very good. also very nice kitchen team. this great snack is to be classified as cheap. always like to come here. still the best curry sausage of the world, for so many years there is it and it is simply unbeatable good. why we always like to buy the longer waiting period. which is also added to vegetarians, and there is a vegetarian curry sausage that really tastes very well. very delicious curry sausage. not as touristy as with curry 36, which is also very beautiful. unfortunately in a district that is not so often visited by us. they were great.
