We arrived at 7pm and sat outside first as it was very warm inside. We ordered our drinks (a G&T and a white wine), the first one of which was great, but my white wine took over 25 minutes to arrive. Once we got really hungry we sat inside and ordered the 5-course menu and a bottle of red wine. I also informed the waitress that I was allergic to nuts. We then waited 40 minutes for the first course to come - a plate of tomatoes, a kind of salad that tasted lovely. But our wine had not arrived so we had to prompt the waitress as I personally enjoy wine as an accompaniment to my food. The wine had been forgotten and when it came we had finished the first course and were waiting for the next. It seemed that food was coming at 25-35 minute intervals which meant we were in the restaurant for over 3 hours in the end. The rest of the food was not quite that exciting and one of my nut-free dishes seemed to be vegetable stock with celery pieces in it. This dish they didn't even know what they were serving us and mixed up our dishes (they weren't sure what the difference was until they took them back and figured out one was nut-free, which they had originally given my boyfriend). We had also considered taking the 4-course meal but then went for the 5-course one as it was 11 euros more. However, this meant that we technically paid 11 euros for the "Zwischengang" an in-between meal consisting of a small spoonful of apple sorbet and two mini blobs of cucumber in a martini glass. Disappointing to say the least. When it was time for the dessert, the vegan pavlova, it came but they took away both plates with no explanation straight away. After 10 minutes and nearly three hours at the restaurant (which was warm and humid as well) I went to enquire what had happened. They then clarified a mistake with the nut allergy and apologised with a glass of champagne each (this was a lovely gesture). However, when they brought the new desserts then, they gave both of us a nut-free dessert. My boyfriend could have had the original dish as with all the other dishes he had already eaten. Now, it was an addition of things but I must say, overall, not impressed in the least. I do NOT want to blame the waiters as they were kind and I do not think they are to blame. But the overall experience and food in itself was something I could have made at home: Tomato salad, Mushroom soup, apple sorbet, aubergine and sweet potato puree. The first course and the dessert were good but the overall experience brought them down a tad. I am rather sad about this and my boyfriend definitely won't want to another vegan restaurant for a while.
I was very excited after reading a great article about this restaurant and took a meat-eating friend so that I could get two perspectives. As a vegan, I appreciate when chefs try to create new experiences and tastes rather than just trying to produce, for example, a vegan "Beer Wellington." Unfortunately, tonight's 5-course set menu (50 Euros) was neither exciting nor stimulating. There were no complex flavors that developed or changed with each bite. In fact, there was very little flavor. The main course of eggplant (aubergine) and sweet potato tasted of neither. It tasted "brown." On the other hand, the soup was completely inedible. It tasted like a beginner's attempt at a cream sauce, too floury and somewhat grainy. The best part of the meal was the pleasant pavlova with a very tasty vegan meringue. That was the only time I would like to have had the recipe to try at home.I think the restaurant was decorated, but I literally can't remember anything except that I had to remove the cushion and sit on the bare bench because the cushion was so uncomfortable. In other words, bland. Well, the men's room was not bland, unfortunately; it smelled horrible. I was quite shocked. Yeck. Fortunately, the service was very good, attentive but not smothering. The wait staff helped each other and made sure everyone was taken care of. I'll be working my way through the other favorite vegan restaurants in Berlin, but this one can be removed from that list.
I was in Berlin with my meat eating son and this was the one fully vegan restaurant we went to. I'm happy to spend 50 euros on a 3 course meal but as I was unsure if my son would enjoy the food we instead went for the 3 course set meal priced at 19 euros. The set meal is called 'Come Together' and is served communally to those who arrive between 6 and 6.15. I wasn't expecting this, but actually was quite nice to sit with others.Restaurant looks lovely, presentation is beautiful service was polite and efficient but I found the food not very good tbh. Its just a taster menu I had but they just seem to be trying too hard to produce interesting food and getting it a bit wrong. The starter tasted like blended salad, my son couldn't eat it at all. The main was mushroom ravioli with carrot puree. I like my food dry but it was on a very large bed of breadcrumbs and they had overseasoned everything with sage, so it just tasted like a large plate of stuffing. The dessert was delicious though. However, I would much rather the whole meal was simple vegan food executed well than an overly complex meal that doesn't work
Each course was delicious and creative. I especially enjoyed the "cheese" plate. Good gluten free options as well. Loved it!
I won't lie, I'm fairly sure this is the poshest restaurant I've ever been to. Don't take that as disparaging, it is a really lovely and friendly and welcoming place. I've never had the chef serve the meal and explain all the ingredients but it was really charming and delightful. The food (everything is 100% vegan) was absolutely mind-blowing, and while expensive, is worth every cent. Such a pungent mix of flavours, it was just delicious and rich. We were too full after a starter and main to even think about dessert.I do highly recommend this dining experience if you are looking for a very fine experience, whether you're vegan or not.
