They serve the most common Spanish tapas found in other similar restaurants, except for a couple of basque dishes. Service is slow, even when the place is almost empty. They charge the price of a ración for a tapa . I left the place hungry and feeling quite scammed.
We decided to go to On Egin since often passing by the place, it seemed to be consistently full. We made a reservation for 10pm when arriving at 8pm and there were no seats available. The place smelled good and the guests appeared to be enjoying themselves. At 10pm our reservation table was almost makeshift like, but it was nice enough to give us some space that night MAYBE. The seating in general is too tight, and with guests packed to the brim like sardines, the noise quality was so that me and my other 2 friends couldn't hear ourselves think, let alone have a conversation without sticking our ears to each other's mouths. Its ok to have a small restaurant, but then, for the comfort of the clientele, its necessary to have a suitable seating arrangement. Maybe they don't get as much business that way, but the general quality of the restaurant will improve immensely, guaranteed. The problems with the over crowded seating at On Egin influence more than just the noise pollution. There was one waiter, and he was super stressed out. Not only did the waiter forget our dessert order, but each of our orders were delivered at separate times, so that we couldn't eat together at all without the food getting cold. Also, the waiter was not very friendly or warm, and there was simply a sense that he wouldn't spit on us if our eyebrows were on fire because there were more pressing matters than the comfort of the guests which I have to say is definitely part of the waiter's job, aside from simply taking order's and forgetting them. Furthermore, we wanted to order a karaff of sangria, but the waiter said they only had 4 karaffs, and they were in use. For the million guests stuffed into the place, you would think they would at least be prepared enough to serve sangria at every table. The food was a disappointment. Sure what we ordered isn't something we would typically make at home, but it wasn't special at all. The portions were teeny tiny, and they were not tapas orders. I wouldn't mind if the portions were even half the size that they are, if the food was delectable. The food was not delectable. It wasn't bad food, can't say that it was awful, but it was mediocre and any regular joe who can cook something beyond pasta can do just as well. On Egin is just hyped up, and the yuppie/hipster crowd that comes in there are drawn to the fact that it looks like its a place to be. Admittedly, I fell for the trap myself. There is a decent tapas restaurant at Hackescher Markt. There will be no second visit for me to On Egin.
It isn 't easy to find restaurants in Berlin that offer something real , but in this case food is as good as in the Basque Country, famous for the quality of its gastronomy. Basque expats usually meet there, so this is no joke!
Something was good something was not that good (croquetas NOT!) a little overpriced for the area (small bottled beer to expensive )
Small place, yet bubbling with talks. All menu items fit into a single page, which leaves you to enjoy carefully selected pieces of cuisine accompanies by a glass of nice wine or sangria.
