A very cozy restaurant with an exiting a la carte menu and a good wine cart. Dont forget to buy the home made...apple juice for the kids, but also for your selves. Our only regret is that we did not book for more than one evening, and book your table in good advance. This place is popular by Berliners. We will defently be back, when we are in Berlin.
Massively busy, Michelin recommended Austrian restaurant. Bread and butter spread were good as was the beetroot soup. My caramelized goat's cheese starter was clever but let down by over oily, over dressed lettuce salad. My wife's Stroganoff and spaetzli just adequate but my schnitzel was...a disgrace. A bit of background here...lam Viennese by birth, raised and fed by a mother that would berate our butcher if the veal she was presented with wasn't top quality and wasn't perfectly cut. I also appreciate that at the price point of this restaurant expecting premium milk veal too big an ask. The meat being used however, though veal at some (distant) time in the past was grey, tough stringy and flavourless. Meat to breading ratio (in flavour of the breading) completely wrong with no cohesion between the two making it difficult and unpleasant to eat. The accompanying potato salad wasn't lukewarm as advertised but was mushy, too wet with a slimy mouthfeel. Also no cucumber salad to be seen. Have eaten better schnitzel at chain restaurants where often pork is offered in lieu of veal just because quality pork is a cost effective alternative to the always more expensive quality veal. Finally, if my schnitzel on the day had been fried in lard as it ought to be, l would eat my proverbial hat. Good wine and drink list and adequate, though rushed and inattentive service with used glasses and bottles remaining uncleared. Michelin needs to re visit and reassess.
I would have rated this place as 4 or even 5 stars if it wasn’t marked as a “Michelin guide noted”. Don’t get me wrong the place is cosy, decorated in classic style, with good service and dishes to choose from, cooked well. Nonetheless,...It’s not a of a “Michelin” quality. We ordered: Asparagus soup, Lambs lettuce salad, Goat cheese salad with grit confit, Mum’s braised beef roll in red wine with potato dumplings, Roasted spinach dumplings with sage butter and matures Austrian mountain cheese. Pretty tasty, simple, fatty dishes Viennese cuisine as it is. The salad soup phase was all good, no complains, but the main dish one could have been a slightl more sophisticated( and healthier). Pretty inexpensive. Hovever, for the ones feeling less picky or just in mood for heavy and tasty Viennese food the place is for you. Kind of in mixed feelings. Probably you should give it a shot.
Wow! I had quite a high expectation given the reviews I saw on line and even more being a Bib Gourmand restaurant in Berlin. I was surprised they went beyond expectation. Starting with the reservation: you have to contact the restaurant and, after sending an...e-mail, the owner Johanna Nußbaumerin took the time to make sure we were all set to go. Than, you have a very good service and the waiter made sure we felt at home with a very nice table and time to chose, giving us enough information to get the right dishes. Finally... the food! Oh my!!! that was delicious.. I chose the beef roll while my wife got the goulash and, after tasting each other dishes, we were fighting to prove our choice was the best... of course, just a husband-wife thing, because both were outstanding! We truly recommend the place
