The staff was really cool and friendly, but the prices were a bit high. Probably because it' such a tourist trap. Not recommended if you get sea sick, but definitely a place to check out if you want to try something different.
After arriving from a night from hell in Paris, this hostelboat made us feel right at home. Long story short from Paris: bags stolen, fraud victims, no cash, camera lost, almost missed 6am flight to Berlin, schizophrenic guest at Paris hostel and I had to wear my winter coat and leather jacket for the whole flight because my carry on was too large. Night/day from hell. Anywho. The staff was wonderful. They let us use all of their outlets to charge our things, helped us around the area so we could get to the Western Union for money, let us have a private room with private bathroom. It was a bit of a walk to Alexanderplatz, where we began most of our sightseeing, but we got to see cool bits of the Berlin wall along the way. We also did a bike tour (cheesy, I know and it was the best thing we could have done to see the city. At night the boat turns into a club/pub with live music and lots of beer. It is a great place to pre game before heading out at around 1am ; We stayed here for just two nights but I really wish we had more time. I absolutely LOVED this spot. Waking up on a river in Berlin is something everyone should do once in their life. As long as you wake up fully clothed and in this hostelboat well, clothing can be optional ;
This has to be one of the quirkiest places to stay in Berlin. I have stayed here twice now and it is rather fun for a hostel. When I was there it was not too noisy and as it is rather small (boat sized even) you are guaranteed that there will not be hoares of people there. I stayed in a first class cabin having worked out that after you add on the cost of hiring linnen in a shared room the cost of the room was not that much more. For the extra cost I thought it was worth it to have my own bathroom and porthole! Cocktails on the deck watching the sun set ...just divine. The hostel is right on the East side gallery which is a large section of the Berlin wall which has been kept intact and turned into a gallery for local graffiti artists most of the works are somewhat political in nature. From here you have easy access to Kreuzberg a rather funky area of Berlin and S&Ubahns into the town cente. Accomodation is a youth hostel so don't expect fantastic facilities Breakfast is simple German continental style with breads, cheese, cold meats cereal and jam the room I had was also not airconditioned so did become a little stuffy in the summer. If your budget is even tighter than mine then their website also advertises the option to pitch a tent on the deck! for a fun and different experience then try the boat hostel.
