Les Gamins - Besançon

Absolutely loved this restaurant! We ate here for lunch and it exactly what I was hoping it would be. Great ambiance and the food was amazing. Had the Cordon Blue with Mac n Cheese... yum!

It was the second time that we visited this restaurant. We all felt that the restaurant was not as good as the first time: the service is robotic, the food is plain, the price is rather high for what is in the plat. When we...told the waiter that the fried chicken that we ordered was not well cooked. Not an excuse, she replied us ‘très bien.’ Then she sent us back a plat of chicken with a lot of sauce, but it was no more the fried chicken that we ordered. Obviously this was the last time!

We have been to Les Gamins last year when in Besançon and liked it. So we came back for more when in Besançon again. It started nice enough, lovely table in the window, the first course nice. Champagne and wine too warm. But this is...quite common in small places, so we did not mention it. For the main course I had ordered Iberian pork. When it came I could hardly believed what I saw: The most enormous meat portion ever, fit for a truck driver. I ate the filet, left the cotelette and asked the waiter to wrap it up to take it home. The young man said yes, went to the kitchen and returned. NO, I was told I could not take it home. First I thought that my husband and I had misunderstood him. Again. NOOOO. Said that I would take it in a piece of foil or whatever, no fancy box needed. Still a NO. And no further explanation why not. We were just speachless. Never ever has anything like this happened before. Throwing away such a large piece of meat?? For which I had payed by the way...The young man seemed not too happy either. We paid and left instantly. I just regret that I have to give the whole thing a point.

A perfect meal in a rainy night, and the local red wine recommended by the staff, was quite unique but super tasted. The service was great. We will definitely go back next time.
