The place is very special and loaded with bird decorations on the wall. The menu choice is small but enough and the food is presented as at home. It is tasty and big enough. Prices are sensibly high for this type of food. An effort is however being made for including organic food which is valuable.
The staff seemed to consist of one server and the chef. The dishes incorporated unusual combinations of delicious locally sourced food. It was not a particularly "fancy" place, but there seemed to be a lot of care put into the preparation and service. The interior was a little quirky, Joan Baez on the sound system; a definite 60's US atmosphere.
I like a vegetarian restaurant and I like organic food. I have eaten inspirational food on that basis where a lot of time and thought has gone in to the food and its presentation. 18 euros for, essentially, 2 slices of toast with asparagus and cheese served with a pile of lettuce and 2 slices of tomato was not up there I am afraid. Neither was the over salted local sausage swimming in cheese sauce.I really support the use of local produce and organic ingredients in my own business but just having organic credentials is not enough. I get that the asparagus was local, hand picked and an expensive item but this does not mean it is OK to not spend time and effort on how it looks on the plate. My vegetarian husband was so disappointed and it makes me angry when vegetarian or vegan restaurants let the side down by resting on their credentials. The homespun approach would have been less annoying if it was not accompanied by the upper end price tag.
Started off well when all four of us had the mushroom en croute soup as a starter but downhill after that.My wife's couscous with chicken was tasteless and you had to search really hard for a single shred of chicken. I chose the small local sausages which turned out to be pretty poor organic frankfurters. The salad - which you thought a bio restaurant would excel at - consisted of a few lettuce leaves, a couple of slices of tomato and a thin slice of cucumber.A friends vegetarian salad with asparagus was exceptionally poor value, though when we commented on it, the chef came and explained that the ingredients, such as baby asparagus was an expensive commodity. All the wine on the menu comes with the "bio" label as well which also means they can add a few euros to the price. All in all we thought it not good value for money. If you're big on organic I'm sure you'll love it, but we just wanted a decent meal and didn't get it.
