It's a little hidden away on the second floor, close to where a lot of fruit vendors are (and across from Tibet Quality Bakery). If my friend hadn't pointed it out I would've missed it!The interior is very comfortable. There is an inside section with big windows, and then there is a table on the balcony. It's really fun to sit there and watch life go by on the street below. Next to the balcony, there's a private room with cushioned seating which can fit five to six people, perfect for a more intimate gathering. There's jugs of filtered water on every table (helpful for those who don't want to keep buying bottled water), no WiFi (this adds something to the experience!), and the food is soooo good. The veg thali is amazing and really substantial, only 90 RS, and I especially like that the dal is made differently every time so it's always a bit of a surprise. I've tried a lot of their dishes and never been disappointed. Aamla has my favorite ginger lemon honey--they give a lot of honey and instead of chopping the ginger into massive hunks like most places do, I think they grate the ginger, so it's really fine and you can eat it all. Yum! Another reason I keep coming back is the staff, they are kind and welcoming. Their smiles and laughter add warmth to an already wonderful atmosphere. Sometimes I bring a papaya and they are amused and have no problem giving me a knife and plate :) Oh also, there's a sink on the balcony so if you have fruit (perhaps from the vendors down below!) it's very convenient to wash them.
Yesterday, my family and I went to Aamla Kitchen for dinner. I decided on this restaurant based on its positive reviews on TripAdvisor, and I am happy to say that I did not regret my choice. The restaurant is located upstairs in a bustling market, but it is a cozy and welcoming place. I opted to experience Tibetan culture by dining on the ground. As for the food, I ordered Chilly Chicken and Shahi Paneer with butter rotis. Both dishes were delicious, well-prepared, and nicely presented. The total cost was only Rs 340/- INR, which I found very affordable. The staff at the restaurant were very friendly and accommodating. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and will definitely visit Aamla Kitchen again if I return to Mcleodganj in the future.
I had lunch at this restaurant every day for two and a half months and I was never disappointed. The food is excellent: the vegetarian option changes daily so you never get tired of it! The staff is very friendly: they knew my preferences perfectly! The quality/price ratio is the best I have found in Dharamshala. I can't wait to go back for more culinary discoveries =)
Went here with three friends and had wonderful veg thalis. The staff is kind, helpful, and the food delicious and very decently priced. Recommend this hidden treasure to anyone!
Do not for a minute be fooled by the simple decor and menu, this place is wonderful - great food, lovely view, delightful service and low, low prices. I have eaten everything on the menu and everything is good, the veg thali is excellent value as well as being the best in town and the Dal is the best in Himachal, maybe the world......And NO WIFI so people talk to each other, acknowledge other eaters, enjoy the view, revel in great food or peacefully read a book. Wonderful! Go here for excellent value and quick service veg thali, or go for a feast and try everything on the menu......you will not be disappointed. Find it opposite the post office and go up the outside steps beside the mobile phone shop. Popular with locals.
