Marco Pierre White Steakhouse, Grill

Tatty, shabby, poor service. Would not bother again. Only went as we had a voucher. Was seated and not visited again for 20 minutes, and then we had to ask. No one asked if we wanted a drink. Then we had to move tables as they had us down for afternoon tea instead of lunch. Food mediocre at best. Upholstery is awful, everything is falling apart. No thanks, Marco Pierre White....

Oh my goodness, what a huge disappointment. The seats (all of them) are tatty and in need of replacement recovering. The background music was unnecessary and at times intrusive. The waitress kept calling my husband “my love” and the vegan (non) options were abysmal. My starter was a plate of sliced beetroot, some rocket and a few walnut pieces on top. No skill, no interest and to be frank, I have a jar of sliced beetroot at home I could have eaten and not noticed the difference. The main was gnocchi. There was only one vegetarian option per course and could be “adapted” for vegans (they removed the egg from the starter). To be honest, I expected more ambiance, intact chairs and more imaginative and tasty food. Seriously, do not waste your time coming here, especially if vegetarian or vegan.

This isn’t fine dining at all. It has a whiff of it, we enjoyed started and desserts for example and did like having window seats despite the supplement. The main course was a let down, we both had lamb and between us I think we had a mouthful each that was tasty and chewable. The seating was terrible, the plastic looking arms and seats were cracked and showing their foam underside some years before. Service was slow and felt disorganised and haphazard. Go solely for the view if that appeals, otherwise choose one of hundreds of better restaurants in Brum.

The setting of the restaurant is good, but it is badly let down by poor furnishings and poor service. The food is average and overpriced. We had lunch from the al a carte menu, with 2 glasses of champagne, wine port, the bill was over £200. For this price you want to be in luxury surroundings and have excellent service. This restaurant was let down on both counts.

Service was superb by Kelise. Every visit brought a beaming smile. Thank you Kelise! I wish the sandwiches had been as fresh as your smile. The champagne was excellent as was the view!
