It has a lovely local charm and an extensive menu, with friendly staff and a welcoming clientele (just be aware that there are signs to help manage the kids!). The omelettes, strawberry waffles, and pastry selections are all fantastic options. Don’t hesitate to request a fancy coffee – I was a bit unsure, but my husband ordered a cappuccino and really enjoyed it!
After my mom's group visited and highly recommended the place, we decided to make the drive for an early dinner. The restaurant boasts two large dining rooms and spacious areas for parties. While the building itself is quite big, each dining area feels comfortable and inviting. Our waitress greeted us warmly, and at 4:15 on a Thursday, the restaurant was relatively empty, allowing us to enjoy the dining room to ourselves. The day before, my mom had lunch there around noon when it was quite busy. I tried the shrimp stir fry, while my wife enjoyed the senior salmon dinner, both of which were delicious and generously portioned. At $20 per plate, the prices were very reasonable. After our meal, we couldn't resist indulging in a variety of bakery items, all of which looked mouthwatering.
The restaurant is tucked away in a beautiful location. I ordered the club sandwich with sweet potato fries. The sandwich was large and delicious, however, it could have been better if the bread had been toasted. The fries were also tasty with a crunchexterior and softy center. The service was good and the place felt cozy and comfortable. The bakery also looked amazing and I'llhave to come back to try more.
Been here a few times over the years. Glad its still around. Lovely large country restaurant and bakery. Staff is friendly, food is good. We come here for the bakery. Hubby loves rye. We visit the museum to see his great great grandfather then stop for ameal. Lots of outdoor benches to relax on.
I'm not sure how this place has been in business for 100 years when it comes to bread making. I tried their Pumpernickel (on the left) and Sourdough loaves, and I honestly felt like I was eating Wonder Bread! The Pumpernickel is supposed to be a dark rye, but this one was far from that. The Sourdough was just mediocre. One of the loaves was labeled as 100% Wheat, but as far as I know, all wheat bread is essentially 100% wheat—there was no whole grain option available. The peanut butter cookies were also nothing special. In fact, we ended up giving the bread away instead of feeding it to the birds. They do have a large selection of other baked goods, which looked appealing, but we didn’t get a chance to try them.
