We recently returned from a delightful 4-night stay at this charming hotel and guesthouse and thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it. The cleanliness of the hotel was outstanding and it had a very welcoming atmosphere. The food was delicious - we dined at both the restaurant and the café for breakfast, and both were excellent. Our room was a bit outdated, but we were informed that the hotel is currently undergoing renovations, which was completely understandable. Despite its age, the room was exceptionally clean and was tidied up every day during our stay. The owners of the establishment were lovely. They made us feel very welcome and provided great recommendations for things to see and do during our visit. They were extremely polite and hardworking, and it was clear that this was a beautiful family-run business. We highly recommend both the hotel and the restaurant, and we would like to thank the staff for a wonderful and carefree trip.
The restaurant was not at all what we had anticipated! Our visit got off to a rough start when we were informed that our reservation was not on the books and the chef would not be available for another 2 hours. We agreed to return at 4:15 p.m. when the chef would be present, and upon our return, we were offered hot drinks or something stronger. We decided on tea, which arrived in teapots along with cups. However, the biggest surprise was yet to come. We were served a smoker of soup, followed by potato wedges, sausage cake, and a hearty dish, all accompanied by various side dishes. There were also roasted cauliflower and carrots, but no sandwiches in sight. The small scones were not homemade, but acceptable, and were served with jam, butter, and two small red velvet cupcakes (store-bought). Additionally, we were served a cake with fried cream and a bizarre assortment of toppings. The staff was friendly enough, but as we were the only diners present, there was a lack of atmosphere in this American-style diner. Overall, the experience was not what we had expected, especially since it was a gift purchased through Wowcher for Christmas.
