Additionally, the Eifoo-Joung sauce didn't seem fresh. On the bright side, some of their Filipino dishes are quite good. But unfortunately, that’s about it.
We visited family and were excited to check out the restaurant again. The original location and its previous owners had sold it, but the new owner is fantastic! He retained the same chefs and recipes, which was a pleasant surprise. Now that we're in Texas, we can confidently say that Grand Cafe offers the best Chinese food around!
It is with a heavy heart that I write this. I've been a fan of this café since the early 1970s. I understand that changes happen and that we must adapt to new circumstances. Despite the shifts, I remained hopeful and didn’t want to let go of my beloved spot. However, as of today, it feels like a completely different place for me. For new customers who have never tasted the original flavors of the food, you may find satisfaction in your experience. I don’t want to speculate on why this transformation occurred, but I’ve chosen to accept it and move on. To those who remember the café as it once was, my thoughts are with you.
That's the best Filipino food I've had since I was in the Philippines. Synagogue is the soup, porkadobo, crispy pork bell, white rice it is true Filipino comfort food. Great staff great atmosphere and especially good food
Fiancé called wanting to get Chinese food tonight and wanted to get a townie favorite, Grand Cafe?what a treat! We?ve gone in restaurant before but this was our first time carrying out. Immediately upon cracking open the box my orange chicken was sealed away in, I knew something was off. The sauce was an atomic orange and looked like jello that was beginning to set. Nevertheless, I took a bite. The flavor was okay but the texture?I will never forget. Perhaps the takeout box worked more like a sauna and made all the contents melt together into an unpleasant mush. Like I said, flavor was okay! But?couldn?t eat much because I couldn?t get over how mushy it was. The vegetable fried rice we ordered was not vegetable unless pork is considered a vegetable. This was very disappointing for my vegetarian fiancé. Even more disappointing was the vegetable sub gum that was once a beacon of light in his memory, was now a lightbulb on the cusp of burning out. An overall disappointment. And to add insult to injury, we only got one, cracked fortune cookie.
