I'm learning to ask for curbside fried food with container top left open, otherwise it looses it's crispiness. That was done for the catfish and fries. EXCELLENT. CRISPY. Execllent fish batter. Loved the tarter sauce as well. We keep silverware in our vehicle. Just prefer eating with metal utensils plus less waste (don't need anymore plastic buried in our land). Pulled over at a nearby shaded river spot. It was a lovely Friday evening.
So delicious. any time we in the area we go there. Yes, service is slow as mentioned in other reviews, but they are cooking everything from scratch and even come out to pluck fresh herbs from their herb garden to prepare your meal. I love the veggie enchiladas and the beef tenderloin. So awesome! And what a cool place to enjoy a great Hill Country day!
Highly recommend for not only casual dinning but for events! We recently had a wedding there and it turned out beautifully! The Welfare Cafe team exceeded our expectations with superior service and they went above and beyond to ensure a smooth event rain or shine. I couldn't have asked for a better venue and catering service!
What a great café! We came here to check the wedding room for a customer and we are so excited! So many great places for photos...and little traffic noice as it is not on a main road. That was a wonderful thing to enjoy some lunch and wine and not to hear tons of traffic. Lunch was delicious and lots of wine to add everything you choose. Food is not cheap, but it is super prepared and oh so delicious (we had the goat cheese eggs and blue crab cake! Was worth a little splurge. There are a few “house dogs” to keep you company while you sip your wine. Some chickens wandered through, an lizard and another bird, we think was a kind of Pheasant (pictured with the chicken). Really a beautiful place, perfect for a quiet escape meal!
Touring the Hill Country and came to this little jewel. We were impressed by the beautiful atmosphere, the fresh menu and the great wine map. But we were surprised when we were asked if we had reservations. I suppose in such a small town they have to exercise mass control. They pressed us and asked for our patience. The temperaillo was great and the burger we shared was perfectly cooked. The sauerkraut balls were unique and delicious. When I go to the coast, I put my patience on Island Time and will do the same when I return.
