We started with satay chicken, duck spring rolls, curry puffs, and Thai fish cakes for appetizers, all of which were delicious, especially the satay chicken. For our main course, we ordered drunken noodles and massaman curry, both of which were exceptional and very generous portions. The appetizers and two main dishes were more than enough for the three of us. The staff were fantastic and provided excellent service.
It has been years since we last visited Rice Pot, but we decided to go again last night. We were pleasantly surprised by the experience. The food was served quickly, in generous portions, and tasted fresh. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was enjoyable. The restaurant was not too crowded, allowing us to have a conversation without any difficulty, which was a definite bonus.
I ordered delivery from Rice Pot Bondi and encountered something hard and bitter in the chicken pad see ew. It turned out to be a deep-fried cockroach. When I called the restaurant, they made excuses about it being an old building and having a known vermin issue. The attached picture shows the cooked cockroach. Make your own conclusions.
This restaurant used to be good, never excellent, and we have been going there occasionally for ten years. However last night my husband and I bought me a take away (green curried chicken and rice), which was disgusting. then, when I tried to tell the head (Thai) woman on the floor, that I did not want thick coconut milk she told me, all take-aways were pre-cooked!!! and they were, I could tell as when I ordered mine they microwaved it again (ie cooked two times) and as a result it was so.dry and leathery (and obviously overcooked) that I couldn 't eat it. On top of that, it cost $22.00 which was ridiculous, given that Thada 's in Victoria Street Darlinghurst, is the BEST THAI RESTAURANT in the eastern suburbs, and their green curried chicken is great and costs only $14.00. We used to eat at Thada 's every night when we lived in Darlinghurst, however, if we get takeaway from there now, its cold by the time we get it to Bondi and must be microwaved when we get home. which also makes it leathery. If anyone knows a good Thai Restaurant in Bondi Beach we 'd love to know where it is as we 've tried them all except 'The Volunteer ' is that any good? Reviews say it is.
Horrible horrible horrible service and food with no flavor and just all round terrible night, from a place I used to LOVE. Never again I’ve learnt my lesson. The worst part was I was warned...
