The fritters were amazing and packed with flavour. Good quantity. 5/5. Coffee was balanced and good. 5/5. The croissant was dense and not moist. 2/5. Nice ambience.
Focus cafe has been around for about 3+years and it's the first time I visited this cafe when I found it through Zomato Gold. There is current offer of 10% discount off total bill.<br/ The customer service and food quality was really good! What a great find.<br/ <br/ LOCATION<br/ Focus cafe is situated along Whitehorse Road on the busier strip of the shopping precinct near Balwyn Road corner. The cafe is opposite to the Balwyn Library and McDonald's.<br/ <br/ The cafe is very spacious. From the exterior it doesnt look like much, but there are 3 separate sections including a large outdoor back area which can seat up to 40 customers. <br/ <br/ I actually hadn't noticed there was an outdoor area until I saw the waiter keep carrying food and opening a side door. So I wandered over to have a look and I decided to change my seat and move outside as it was such a nice day. <br/ <br/ SERVICE<br/ <br/ Customer service here are very warm and genuine. The atmosphere is very relaxed and I enjoyed the outdoor vibe. <br/ Their menu changes twice a year summer and winter menu's! <br/ <br/ MENU/PRICE<br/ <br/ Matcha Green Tea Shake, $7.00<br/ <br/ Fritters, $17.50<br/ (pumpkin and feta fritters with grilled Alsace bacon, crushed avocado, sweet corn relish, cucumber yoghurt and a poached egg) <br/ <br/ VERDICT<br/ I had read previous reviews and was excited to try their pancakes but only thing that I could see on the menu that remotely related to pancakes was the french toast. I was told that the menu had changed already. I was a little disappointed but finally decided to try their fritters. <br/ I have never tried pumpkin and feta fritters before. I've seen in cafe menu's mainly corn fritters. I changed the poached egg to a sunny side up fried egg instead. The egg was cooked perfectly! The food presentation on the plate was very colourful.<br/ I was pleasantly surprised to see that pumpkin fritters was actually fried I though the feta was mixed in with the pumpkin but it was actually sprinkled on top of the pumpkin fritter. I didnt mind the pumpkin fritters fried but it was a little too oily. The bacon and crushed avocado were delicious and completed well. I really liked the sweet corn relish, it was light and tasty, and cucumber yoghurt was a good dipping sauce for the fitters and helped balance the heaviness of the batter with the freshness of the yoghurt. <br/ <br/ The matcha green tea shake was very tasty! matcha flavour was light yet distinct, yum! <br/ I am interested to return to try the Soft Shell Crab Taco's.
The coffee at this restaurant is excellent. The pour-over coffee, which is not commonly found in Melbourne, is superb – floral and fruity with a medium body. Bob, the owner, is friendly and well-versed in a variety of coffee types. This is a wonderful spot to visit and relax with friends.
I have heard so much about Focus around the traps and was looking forward to trying their offerings. Service was lovely and friendly. We had:<br/ Cappuccino this was made well. The coffee was strong and robust. The froth was creamy and delicious. <br/ Matcha green tea milkshake in a word...yummy! The matcha flavour was prominent and the drink was not too sweet. <br/ <br/ Cannot wait to return to try their food soon!
