I was surprised to find out that there is a One Piece cafe in Melbourne. The decors and figure collection were spot on. The food was quite good and had decent portions.
What is 1 Piece?I thought it was in reference to a Burger patty ..... wrong.Thank God for children, my son apart from my burger eating companion pointed out to me that the name is derived from a Japanese anime, a manga series named "One Piece" it has been around since 1997.... as I have no idea .... he also said it was "deliberately" spelled incorrectly probably due to copyright issue, good work son.On arrival, your mind is thinking a hobby store, it doesn't look like a Burger joint. Your sensory will be treated or more like trying to adjust to these "overloaded" manga characters all over the joint, miniatures, bright, quirky, print, soft toys, etc. It gives Whitehorse Rd, Balwyn another aspect of completing this multiculturalism edge in this blue ribbon suburb.Shakes were plain and ordinary, nothing fancy like these new-age mega shakes with toppings overflowing to the top.Burger-wise; their buns are definitely one of the best buns around.1 + beef with cheese; good beef patty and the rest of the good stuff, bacon, beetroot, tomato, mustard and aioli.Luffy's favourite chicken burger more like chicken nuggets spread in between the buns with yellow cheese, lettuce, BBQ & Japanese mayo sauce combo, that was good too, a taller crunchy burger. All are well prep and arranged on top of the One Piece round plate. That was enjoyable, might try their breakfast next time and check out more anime characters.
My daughter and I came here for a quick bite to eat and we found this quirky little cafe set amongst much trendier places. We ordered iced coffee and cake and the service was very fast.Staff were delightful, very friendly and quick to take my order. The decor and artwork is intriguing and somewhat eclectic. There are clean toilets at the rear but not easily accessible with a wheelchair.Parking was available out front. Wheelchair friendly. Kids would enjoy it here.
What a pleasant surprise! Having absolutely no interest in manga, I wasn't quite sure what to expect from this unique cafe but the food did the talking.
