The flagship farm, Greywall Farm, has been in operation for 25 years. The company was established not only to showcase the value of agriculture but also to educate consumers about the origins of their food. Initially focused on promoting local agriculture, The Farmer’s Cow evolved in response to consumer demand for milk, which ultimately led to its creation. Over the years, they’ve expanded their offerings to include various dairy products, ice cream, and more recently, coffee and cider—all produced in collaboration with local farmers. After the history presentation, we had the privilege of touring the grounds, which house 550 milking cows and around 1,000 total cattle. Although we visited during the off-season, we learned that they host many farm tours and family events during warmer months. Every farmer we spoke with was passionate about their work, and one memorable quote was, “You can't make cows give you milk; they give it to you.” This philosophy reflects the respect and care they provide these animals, ensuring they receive a nutritious diet largely made from feed grown on the farm itself. Another delightful surprise during our visit was a brief talk with the owner of Mystic Cheese. Having been in production for just about a year, he uses his cheese pod to create some of the freshest cheese I've ever tasted—thanks to the high-quality milk available. Their cheese is truly exceptional. I want to extend my gratitude to everyone at Greywall Farm. I am now a definite fan of this local Connecticut agricultural business!
I really can't express enough positive thoughts about the entire Farmer's Cow family. After taking a tour here, we gained insight into how this multi-generational family farm operates. The people at Farmer's Cow are genuinely dedicated to their animals, their products, and their farm. It’s fascinating to learn how they support Connecticut in various ways, from preserving land to collaborating with other farms to provide residents with local food options. They aim to educate customers about the importance of local businesses, and they certainly excel at it! If you have the opportunity, bring the whole family for an informative (and enjoyable) tour. Also, be sure to check out Mystic Cheese, an innovative cheese-making venture located on the property!
I've always been a fan of whole milk—1% or 2% just don’t cut it for me. I used to add half-and-half or light cream to my coffee, but all that changed when I discovered Farmers Cow whole milk. It truly is the best milk I've ever tasted. I can hardly believe it has the same butterfat percentage as other brands (though maybe that’s the secret). The great thing is, I can still enjoy it in my coffee. My family, on the other hand, prefers skim or 1% milk, which I can’t stand—they’d probably gag on this whole milk! I even managed to get our cat hooked on it. Now, if she sees skim or 1% milk, which she used to drink, she won't touch it. If you're a milk lover like me, you absolutely have to give this a try!
I drove 20 minutes to get here, expecting a farm setting based on your misleading photos. I was hoping to show my 10-month-old some cows and perhaps a few other animals. However, the place looks abandoned. I ended up changing his diaper in the parking lot and then left. There’s no farm, barn, or anything at all. Very disappointing.
My family and I have been visiting this restaurant for generations, and it always offers a fantastic atmosphere along with excellent local service. I recently heard they’ve been given the green light to bring back the gas pumps, which would be amazing! It would be even better if they could maintain the same price per gallon as before!
