I was waiting at the bar for about an hour one of the staff (women with blonde hair) came out to the bar didn’t even ask me if I wanted another drink (which I did) and she was on the phone stuffing her face with a sandwich and I said excuse me nicely even though I wasn’t happy and she looked at me and I got ignored which I think is so rude plus since I walked in apart from the women being on the phone and getting my first drink I haven’t seen anyone at the bar for over an hour
My wife and I have been here five times so far for our Sunday Roast. 10 out of 10 every time. Hot plates. Great Roast and plenty of it. Well worth a visit. Best to book. Real Ale, and at least one guest ale. The bar menu has everything from sandwiches to meals, and all reasonably priced. Parking is limited, but there is a multi story car park 50 yards away. (Cheap on Sunday) Were going again!
I start off by saying this pub is so quaint and rustic and has a brilliant atmosphere which dates back to around the 16th century. It is full of character with beams on the ceiling and an open fire also. First impressions? Excellent. The layout inside is fairly small and I guess it can get noisy if it is busy. Although it is small, there is still enough space to walk around and not really have anyone listen to your conversation. There is a car park outside and again I can imagine this would get full at the height of summer. We did find the spaces were a bit narrow (our car is a Mondeo 2010) but they are not the only pub which has narrow spaces. This doesn’t detract from anything. It is purely an observation. I took my fiancee and 7 year old boy there for dinner on a Saturday evening at around 1730 and I did book (advisable as can get busy) and we had a table by the window and right next to the open fire (shame it wasn’t on) but you can’t have everything. We sat down and within a couple of minutes we were asked if we would like any drinks and not long after that, we were asked if we were ready to order which we were. The service we received throughout the entire meal was excellent and our waitress was called JAYNE. She was friendly, warm and smiled all the time and nothing was too much trouble. The food was also excellent. All 3 of us are vegetarians so it can be a little bit tricky sometimes to find decent food because normally any dish would have mushrooms in and none of us are fans of these disgusting fungi!!!!!!! My son had the Pip’s Pasta, I had the veggie burger and my fiancee has the veggie fish and chips. The food was very tasty with the exception of the coleslaw type sauerkraut type thing on the side of my plate. I ate it but I couldn’t’t tell you what was in it or even what it tasted like. That was the only down side. Dessert was also delicious and we had the cookie with ice cream. It was sweet, oh so sweet and filling but great nonetheless. So overall, this pub is delightful and we will go back again. It is pretty good value for money, the food is good as is the service, so really what isn’t there to like. If you are near Brentwood, the A128 or A127 then stop here for a bite to eat, I am sure you will not regret it.
Booked for 2 night stay m evening meal better in the bar good wine to choose from. Rooms are good size sadly we were on the ground floor and the person above was up early and the floorboards were not the best so we were waken early. The staff friendly Ryan in the bar very helpful as was the restaurant manage
