It is a modest but friendly pub on the busy A120 east of Coggeshall which serves superb food at reasonable prices without the rush you might get in other places. We go often for Sunday lunch and have never left hungry the portions are just right. My wife loves the vegetarian option for Sunday lunch and I must admit, even though I enjoy the pork or beef options, I enjoy it too. And for fans of traditional British puddings, there is always an excellent selection.
We stayed here for the night as we were attending a wedding locally. The pub from the outside looks lovely and inside the bar was very nice. We we're shown to our room outside in what I can only explain as a porter cabin. The towels in the bathroom were far from white and were very damp. Four and a half star the accommodation wasn't. We've stayed in better star ratings for less than the £85 A night charge. Safely to say we won't back.

Very good quality food. Friendly staff. Lovely fire. Going again tomorrow and already booked for another occasion.
Traditional quaint little pub with good food, roaring fire and very welcoming friendly staff. Nothing was too much trouble and our large group had a great time.
