Its a shame this restaurant has gone so downhill since the pandemic. Menu has shrunk and on a cheap piece of laminent paper. Service was mediocre. Wine selection was minimal when it use to be so much more. Couldn't get pizza cuz the cook failed to show up. I ordered a pasta with chicken and there was barely any. During the pandemic we ordered take out and the portions were tiny and the mushrooms in the meal were canned (hurl). I hope they can step up their game but right now, they need to do some serious rethinking of their operation.
*buyer alert: they include gratuity in the final price and don’t tell you. Fraudulent! Additionally, this place is NOT kid friendly and definitely not family friendly. Honestly. The food was really good, but because of how crappy the service was; and just the experience we got from the servers and possibly the owner manager it’s really hard to even give a good review. We had a reservation for 3; myself, my husband and my little baby. It was a cold day, so my husband dropped me and my little one at the door. When I walked in; no one came to greet us. I’m standing there for about 5 minutes. It wasn’t until another couple walked in; that someone approached me. Paying NO heed to me, and serving them first and seating them. At this point I’m ready to walk out but the manager owner comes and asks me if I have a reservation. I said yes, for 3. And he looks at me and goes DO YOU MEAN 1.5? I’m like no, 3 I have someone else coming and my baby. So he says OH SO 2.5 and walks away. Then he comes to me 2 mins later points to a table and says, BTW there’s a table there for you. It only had 2 seats.. did they expect me to put my kid on my lap the whole time? So I asked where my third chair is, and they said they’d give me a high chair. 10 mins gone, no one’s served us yet and no high chair. I watch them serve people who walked in after us. Thankfully I actually brought my own portable high chair so I just pulled a chair from another table and set up my baby. Okay… then, we sit there my husband walks in and we wait another 10 mins. No menu and no one has come to us yet so my husband goes to the front to ask for a menu. They hand him one in the hand instead of walking it to us. Such a 1 star restaurant thing to do. We finally have our order and some guy is setting our table with bread and water: so i assume he’s my server. I ask about the menu and he says oh I’m not your server. The server finally comes to us and introduces himself with the answer to the question I asked the other guy, no hi, no introduction ; just “it has potatoes in it”… okay who are you? Anyways; I told him how disappointed I was and told him we’re here for a special occasions he apologies and then says, okay. No question on what we’re celebrating NOTHING We place our order. Food is good. We got Ceaser salad, fish pasta this rigatoni with goat cheese it was all delicious. We watch as the servers go and check up on each table refilling water, and making conversation. Nothing towards us. We finish our dinner and ask for a dessert menu. I was ready to order something from the menu; instead another server approaches us now (a woman with red hair) with our bill. I wasn’t even done eating and didn’t get a chance to even order my dessert. Overall TERRIBLE experience. TERRIBLE service. I walked into a 1 star restaurant and ate 4 star food. Wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone primarily because the service sucked that much. Maybe they hate people with babies or they are racist who knows.
Service was excellent. We enjoyed the warm herbed buns that were served before the appetizer. The crispy calamari and two shrimp were nicely cooked. A very delicious slightly spicy aioli was a great accompaniment, but we could have used a little more (we didn’t ask, perhaps we should have… A thin crust pesto pizza was enjoyed with the crust having some nicely charred areas for added flavour. The chicken came bathed in a lovely lemon butter sauce with capers, YUM! Sweet roasted red pepper with other crisp vegetables and two tiny nicely roasted potatoes. I would have enjoyed more vegetables on the plate. There is a nice ambiance with their decor and windows looking out towards Gage Park and City Hall area. Parking is free in the close by underground. The food was good, service was excellent and the ambiance completed the evening.
Thought we would try this restaurant, used to go there years ago. allot has changed. not for the good. had the osso buco, tasted like all the sauce came out of a can. the risotto tasted like paste. mussels had the same sauce. my wife rigatoni with mushrooms used the same sauce with chicken added that she paid extra for, she had trouble finding the chicken. the bread had too much oregano on it, and was 75 cents each extra piece if you wanted more. my wife was going to order the chicken parm, but wanted pasta instead of vegetables, was told that it would be extra as all dishes were pre-sized? waiter did ask why we didnt eat much, we told him why, he said he would tell the cook. no response came back.
