The menu was easy as it was typical German frühstück with bread and different offerings like cheese, spreads and Housemade jams. The coffee menu was straight forward but things didn’t arrive with cream or sugar and asking was a chore. Watching the food come out it was all so fussy as two people from the Kitchen would sit the food down and then some random person would mess with those plates to decide what bread accompanied it and then a server would get it but all servers waited on inside and outside so plates sat too long. We had three different servers in our short time there. In this, people were being ignored and many people sat, waited and left after being completely ignored. Reserved tables were sat and those poor people got nothing while passerbys got served before them. We witnessed an all out mutiny of people trying to pay or get things as simple as salt or adequate flatware. The staff was so unprepared for that. Some seemed bored by all the inquiries and others visibly panicked confusing orders and forgetting things. The best part was the food was just so darn good we didn’t care! The jam was delightful. The cheeses were a nice selection with great accoutrements. Even the mushy fruit garnishes were tasty with these lil glass ramekins of yogurt. Eggs were cooked to our liking and was a nice portion. People coming out from the kitchen seemed to really care about the food and presentation. They also looked to be enjoying the busy tempo. The only bad thing was there wasn’t enough bread just one more piece per person would have been enough to fully clear our frische käse from the plates. Overall it was a long experience considering service but a good time for people watching and eating well. Maybe play up the OJ and offer bottomless mimosas? That may keep people in their seats.
Engel WeinCafe is placed on a small Square in Veirtel Bremen. A perfekt place for a glas of wine or brunch or lunch. We had Flammkurchen de best I have ever tried! The kartoffeltortillia looked very good too. We had a nice glas of Riesling and the price was very reasonable. The café had a very good vibe from the lokals visiting. You can sit outside there is a bit of noice from the Trams passing by.
I am so happy we found this place. I want to come back to Bremen just so I can visit Engel again...!
This was a visit of mixed impressions. We had a booking but our party got a lot bigger very soon before we went and I felt bad that we inconvenienced the tea at Engel but they coped really well. Service was not slow because of the party size and everything was well paced. As it was an unseasonably warm evening and the terrace was full, I was impressed how well they coped. We were inside and it was WAY too hot as our table was one of the few that was furthest from the ceiling fan. It was uncomfortably warm. The food was mostly very good indeed but those of us who ordered the sashimi had to content with it still being frozen in the middle not just chilled, actually with ice crystals. Not so good. One colleague sent hers back. Aside from that, a good time was had by all.
Very suitable for breakfast. At the moment the café opens only at 10 a.m. under the week, but there are also a few places to miss. Sitting outside is also possible. The Italian breakfast and the sweet breakfast are recommended. Nevertheless, something is enough for the better filled wallet and not for everyone to fill a menu. Can everything be recommended in every good conscience.
