I love to visit lola in brighton. they have very good coffee, vegan suppening, at least one vegetarian item on the menu every day, and excellent baked goods.
I live in the general opposite, and after seeing lola on happy cow, I wanted to try. So I booked a meeting for coffee/tea and I was hoping to lunch! I had no time to eat before I left (my main reason for choosing this goal). as a vegan with a heavy daily book allergy I can not eat at most places. So when I arrived, I ordered a nice potte and asked what they could suggest for a hungry vegan. they offered me apfelstrudel, which was not made before site and that they were promised were kept on separate paper, but it was all white flour and probably contained shortening etc. some prepackaged chocolate chip cookies also made elsewhere; her suppe of the day for which I was not in the mood as it was 20c outside; or humus on a salad leaf instead of brot or a pack because they could not guarantee that their brot or packing had no milk, or that they had not come into contact with it. it is a small kitchen and everything (sandwiches, wraps, focaccia) is mounted on the same board. Even if the brot were milk-free, I would not trust that it is cut on the same table as cheese sandwiches. they also had egg salad, thunfischsalat, cheesy melted. So I decided not to fill one of the prepackaged cookies very tiny (only a little bigger than a zunie) and much too sweet. It didn't kill me, but I still starve. there were chocolate chips, but super sweet! at least they were milk-free and kept my blood sugar for the meeting. it has a good tee (and apparently coffee) and a very nice atmosphere, but not a good place for strict vegans/vegetarians, or those with food allergies, unless they are looking for tee or coffee.
I typically order the spinach omelet because it never disappoints. This time, I decided to try something different and it was just as excellent. The atmosphere is wonderful and the staff is friendly. Brighton is fortunate to have this hidden gem.
My daughter works in Brighton and suggested Lola's Cafe for sandwiches and coffee. So, my wife and I decided to check it out. The chicken sandwich was fantastic and the coffee was delicious. The date squares were outstanding. We will definitely return.
