What a find this place is! This is food about as good as it gets and the menu is ever changing based on what is locally available. The menu is simple and perfect, a choice of a 6 course or 8 course tasting menu; with a wine pairing option. They will happily alter to suite vegetarians etc. Everything we had, from a light broad bean and mint velouté soup, 20 minute sugar/salt cured fresh mackerel blow touched to crisp the skin, local beef and two deserts was outstanding. The staff were very professional, knowledgable and helpful. Decor is modern, clean and very attractive. There is absolutely nothing I can say negative about this place. Apparently others feel the same way, it is becoming extremely difficult to get a reservation. Interestingly the kitchen is open and a hive of activity. Steven Edwards (an award winning British chef) and his team clearly know what they are doing and are not afraid to experiment and surprise. For example; bread is a light, warmed brioche bun with a glossy Marmite glaze. Absolutely stunning, especially considering I do not like Marmite! My wife, daughter and me spent a very enjoyable 3 hours dinning at Etch and left very happy and pleasantly surprised. The 8 course tasting menu is not over indulgent, just right for anyone with a normal appetite. You may have noticed all my reviews to date on Yelp have been 5 star, this is deliberate. Life is too short to focus on that which does not make us happy. This is why I restrict my reviews to those things/places that make me happy and appreciate life. Sure, I have been to some really awful restaurants, but, like I said, life is too short to spend time thinking and writing about them
Can't make it wrong, but very echo room. along with the loud, inappropriate music, made the conversation and enjoying the evening quite difficult. fine eating, but the atmosphere didn't fit!
We were greeted with a beautiful warm reception and shown on our table. the interiors are so chic and everything feels at top quality (big utensils, glassware, cutlery, furniture etc.) it became care and attention to every detail here, no matter...how small the bathrooms smell incredible! the 9-course menu was kreatiw, seductive and incredibly tasty. it was also very well clocked and balanced, which can be a challenge with multi-course tasting menus. highlights included the best deaf I've ever eaten, and a lemon that put a huge smile on our faces. the weeping was one of the best I had. as a busy wine lover it was a joy to offer sam such a stellar experience. we had the feeling that it was a very good food for the quality and experience. the weeps offered especially noble stones such as the rare and divine red hen merlot to appropriate praises. Do not miss the cocktail! just go. a trip to hove is worth it, from where they are! look forward to the return.
We had the 9-speed menu with the wine tasting. it was expensive 1000 for 4 people) but honestly every penny worth. each dish was perfect and complemented by the wine. it is a long chaos as they receive 2 items in addition to the...9 courses, but the portions are small so that they feel at the end full but not exaggerated. not every week something to do, but an amazing place for a special occasion. oh and the service is impeccable.
