I have been a regular customer for years and was pleasantly surprised by the improved standards under the new owner. The breakfast options have been upgraded, with higher quality sausages. During my visit, I ordered the number 2 with bacon, extra egg, and fried potatoes, while my friend had the Mac special with extra black pudding and mushrooms. We both enjoyed a cup of tea with our meals. The total cost was £20.50, but we were happy to pay for the exceptional food and service. It was nice to see some familiar faces from before the ownership change, providing the same friendly service with a smile as always.
Fantastic no-frills café. Every restaurant in Brighton is trying to charge £15 for breakfast, but Mac's is always less than £10 with a drink. The fried eggs are great, just make sure to ask for toast because it doesn't come with the breakfast. A must-visit spot for weekends, I would definitely go again.
I ordered a ham and cheese toastie and received two slices of rock hard toast with unmelted grated cheese and a single slice of ham in the middle. I paid £9.45 for this, along with a can of Barr cream soda. I only paid £6.50 at Peter Pan's Playground for a much better toastie.
This cafe has all the elements of being excellent for a bacon sandwich mug of tea but just lacks the wow factor of maybe a bright and breezy manager greeting and joking with the clientele.
Macs has been taken over by Paul from Roedean Cafe Where I am a regular. Guarantee that the food will be excellent, the coffee hot and the welcome very warm. 1 owner, 2 great cafe's.
