Pump Room - Brighton and Hove

I was shocked on observing the owner of this cafe playing beach volley ball in filthy clothes , walk straight into the pump room to make sandwiches without washing his hands and give it to an old lady to eat, no hygiene at all. Handling bacon, cheese and tuna creating high risk of cross contamination. The owner with a braid Scottish accent was also extremely rude to customers sitting nearby , shouting at one man who seemed to be a regular , who replied very politely , I then watched the same proprietor bag up rubbish and cycle it off to public waste bins . It's like a filthy version of Fawlty towers without the humour

I bought some ice cream here today. The ice cream was lovely, but shame about the service. I bought two scoops of ice cream in a tub. It was placed in front and then the server (he looked like the owner), made like he was going. How did he expect me to eat the ice cream? With my fingers? When I asked him politely did he have a scoop, he very rudely answered scoops are here and pointed at a box and then he left. I had to reach to the other end of the counter, over two customers, and into the box to get a scoop and I only have short arms as I am quite short. You don’t expect to be treated like this when you’ve just paid £4.50 for two scoops of ice cream. Usually you would be served with your ice cream in the tub together with the scoop. Quite astonishing and I for one won’t be back. There are plenty of other places in Brighton to get nice ice cream.

Really nice ice cream and lovely coffee. It is in a very relaxing location right by the sea. Very friendly staff too.

I come here a lot for an early after swim coffee. Coffee is really good. Just started having the occasional breakfast there. Vegan cheese,spinach mushroom toastie on sourdough was very good. Today I had, as photo, tasty good value, with a great view too. Nice people too.
