It is a shame when a favourite restaurant changes hands and the rustic family atmosphere of true "nonna" meals evaporates. Unfortunately this has happened and the meals are now are bland and uninteresting (we both suffered a gastric complaint possibly from the mushroom entree the only plate we shared), the service hesitant and almost non-existent (our finished plates were left before us for 1/2 hour) and the wine list, although reasonably comprehensive, is priced as a fine dining river frontage Mitchelin restaurant of which this is definitely not. This has morphed into an expensive pizzeria and is now one we will avoid at all costs
Seriously in the top ten in Brisbane for authentic Italian pizza. Service was quick the staff were friendly and if you don't like the pizza here then you have no idea how pizza should be. Surprised to see boiled egg and peas on the capricciosa but was delicious.
We went here for our wedding anniversary. Upon arrival they didn't have our name down as we had reserved a table. However they accommodated us right away. Our waiter was amazing. He even sang to us while we ate. The food was pretty good. Not the best Italian I have ever eaten but the wine and service was great!Had a beautiful anniversary evening.
We visited Spizzico today (Sunday) for our three monthly visit with old friends. Immediately we noticed a marked difference with renovations taking place and new faces. On enquiringly we were told that there was a change of ownership. There were six of us arriving at noon. We were somewhat suspicious as there was no one else there. Immediately on arrival we were pressure to order when we wanted to experience a leisurely Sunday afternoon lunch which we had done for more than 12 years. There was a language problem with the waiter who had limited English. The quality of the margarita pizza we ordered was not as good as previous. After more pressure to order main, two of us ordered the calamari dish from the specials board which was served with pasta and a sauce. Instead we received salt and pepper calamari which contained so much salt they were inedible. To add insult to injury we were charged $50 corkage four bottles of wine. Under the previous owners it was $2 per bottle. This experience was a total disappointment for us and our friends and we totally understand why there was no other patrons in the restaurant. What a disgrace.
